TL;DR: This fourth edition of the guidelines for preventing opportunistic infections (OIs) among persons infected with human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) is intended for clinicians and other health-care providers who care for HIV-infected persons.
Journal ArticleDOI
Durability and predictors of success of highly active antiretroviral therapy for ambulatory HIV-infected patients
TL;DR: Durable response to HAART was associated with being pre-HAART therapy naive, prompt response toHAART, and single protease inhibitor-based initial HAART (indinavir or nelfinavir).
Journal ArticleDOI
Prevalence and clinical correlates of HIV viremia (`blips') in patients with previous suppression below the limits of quantification
Peter Sklar,Douglas J. Ward,Rose K. Baker,Kathleen C. Wood,Zarina Gafoor,Carlos F. Alzola,Anne C. Moorman,S D Holmberg,Hiv Outpatient Study (Hops) Investigators +8 more
TL;DR: Transiently detectable viremia, usually 50–400 copies/ml, was frequent among patients who had two consecutive HIV-1 RNA levels below the limits of quantification, and did not appear to affect the risk of developing lasting viresmia.
Journal ArticleDOI
Discontinuation of Chemoprophylaxis against Pneumocystis carinii Pneumonia in Patients with HIV Infection
TL;DR: This study sought to determine whether discontinuing PCP prophylaxis in HOPS patients who had sustained CD4+ cell counts greater than 200 cells/mm3 changed the rates of development of PCP, and who were nonrandomly chosen by their clinicians to discontinue or continue PCP anti-viral therapy.
