Do probabilistic forecasts lead to better decisions
TL;DR: This paper conducts a laboratory-style experiment in which several cases of flood forecasts and a choice of actions to take were presented as part of a game to participants, who acted as decision-makers and the results are presented.
Journal ArticleDOI
River flow forecasting with artificial neural networks using satellite observed precipitation pre-processed with flow length and travel time information: case study of the Ganges river basin
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors explored the use of flow length and travel time as a pre-processing step for incorporating spatial precipitation information into Artificial Neural Network (ANN) models used for river flow forecasting.
Journal ArticleDOI
Mobile phone applications in the water domain.
Andreja Jonoski,Leonardo Alfonso,Adrian Almoradie,Ioana Popescu,S. J. van Andel,Zoran Vojinovic +5 more
TL;DR: Experiences with development of mobile phone demonstrator applications in the water domain in different application areas such as water distribution, hydrological data collection, flood management and water quality information dissemination are presented.
Journal ArticleDOI
Data assimilation of satellite-based actual evapotranspiration in a distributed hydrological model of a controlled water system
I. M. Hartanto,J. van der Kwast,Thomas Alexandridis,Waldenio G. Almeida,Yang Song,S. J. van Andel,Dimitri Solomatine,Dimitri Solomatine +7 more
TL;DR: Assimilation of EO actual evapotranspiration data can improve discharge simulation with a spatially distributed hydrological model of a controlled water system and showed that assimilating EO ETa may not only be effective in the more common applications of soil moisture and crop-growth modelling, but also for improving discharge modelling of controlled water systems.
Journal ArticleDOI
Integrated modelling for flood risk mitigation in Romania: case study of the Timis–Bega river basin
TL;DR: In this paper, an integrated flood modelling approach has been applied in a demonstrator of a flood management system, which was developed within the framework of a collaborative project between Romania and the Netherlands.
