Analysis of BAC-end sequences (BESs) and development of BES-SSR markers for genetic mapping and hybrid purity assessment in pigeonpea (Cajanus spp.)
Abhishek Bohra,Abhishek Bohra,Anuja Dubey,Anuja Dubey,Rachit K. Saxena,Rachit K. Saxena,R. Varma Penmetsa,KN N. Poornima,KN N. Poornima,Naresh Kumar,Naresh Kumar,Andrew Farmer,Gudipati Srivani,Hari D. Upadhyaya,Ragini Gothalwal,S. Ramesh,Dhiraj Singh,Kulbhushan Saxena,P. B. Kavi Kishor,Nagendra K. Singh,Christopher D. Town,Gregory D. May,Douglas R. Cook,Rajeev K. Varshney,Rajeev K. Varshney +24 more
TL;DR: While BAC libraries and BESs should be useful for genomics studies, BES-SSR markers, and the genetic map should be very useful for linking the Genetic map with a future physical map as well as for molecular breeding in pigeonpea.
Sweet Sorghum - A Potential Alternate Raw Material for Bio-ethanol and Bio- energy
TL;DR: Besides having rapid growth, high sugar accumulation, and biomass production potential, sweet sorghum has wider adaptability and would be a logical crop option in lieu of sugarcane in such situations as water availability and purchased inputs.
Diagnostics of Sorghum and Pearl Millet Grains-based Nutrition in India
TL;DR: In this paper, the contribution of sorghum and pearl millet for micronutrient deficiency in the semi-arid tropics in India is discussed. But, the authors focus on providing vitamin and mineral supplements to pregnant women and young children and on fortifying foods during processing.
Journal ArticleDOI
Bio-Fuel Crops Research for Energy Security and Rural Development in Developing Countries
Belum V. S. Reddy,S. Ramesh,Arvind Kumar,Suhas P. Wani,Rodomiro Ortiz,H. Ceballos,T K Sreedevi +6 more
TL;DR: In this article, the potential benefits of bio-fuels in increasing the farmers' incomes, reducing environment pollution, the crop options and research and development interventions required to generate feedstocks to produce bio-Fuels to meet projected demand without compromising food/fodder security in developing countries.
Journal ArticleDOI
Genetic diversity for grain nutrients contents in a core collection of finger millet (Eleusine coracana (L.) Gaertn.) germplasm
Hari D. Upadhyaya,S. Ramesh,Shivali Sharma,Sudeep Singh,S K Varshney,N.D.R. Sarma,C R Ravishankar,Y Narasimhudu,V G Reddy,Kanwar L. Sahrawat,T. N. Dhanalakshmi,M.A. Mgonja,Heiko K. Parzies,C. L. L. Gowda,Sube Singh +14 more
TL;DR: Evaluation of finger millet core germplasm for grain nutrients and agronomic traits revealed a substantial genetic variability for grain Fe, Zn, calcium (Ca) and protein contents, which has significantly higher grain yield potential than those rich in Fe and protein content.
