Journal ArticleDOI

Long chain fatty acid activation in subcellular preparations from rat liver.

TL;DR: Investigation of reaction requirements and appropriate modifications revealed that rat liver is extremely active in long chain acyl-coenzyme A synthetase or synthetases (acid: CoA ligase (AMP), EC 6.2.1.3) activity, and suggests the possible occurrence of at least two different long chain Acyl-CoA Synthetases in rat liver microsomes.
Journal ArticleDOI

Inhibition of Enzyme Activities by Free Fatty Acids

TL;DR: The marked similarity in the observed inhibition of diverse enzymes by long chain unsaturated fatty acids to that of reported inhibitions by fatty acyl-CoA esters suggests that inhibitory effects are due to detergent properties of these inhibitors.
Journal ArticleDOI

Inhibition of the Stearyl Coenzyme A Desaturase System by Sterculate

TL;DR: The mechanism of the inhibition in vitro of the microsomal stearyl-CoA desaturase system by sterculate is investigated and data do not support the suggestions that this is mediated by the binding of thiol groups of enzyme proteins by the cyclopropene group.
