Journal ArticleDOI

Bioactive Glasses: Where Are We and Where Are We Going?

TL;DR: A picture of the current clinical applications of bioactive glasses is provided, and six relevant challenges deserving to be tackled in the near future are depicted.
Journal ArticleDOI

Synthesis and characterization of electrospun polyvinyl alcohol nanofibrous scaffolds modified by blending with chitosan for neural tissue engineering

TL;DR: Electrospun polyvinyl alcohol (PVA)/chitosan nano-fibrous scaffolds have been synthesized with large pore sizes as potential matrices for nervous tissue engineering and repair and it could be concluded that addition of chitOSan to the PVA scaffolds enhances viability and proliferation of nerve cells, which increases the biocompatibility of the scaffolds.
Journal ArticleDOI

Nanotechnology and Nanomedicine: Start small, think big

TL;DR: A brief review of the potential applications of nanotechnology in different fields, especially in medicine, including in tissue engineering and regenerative medicine.
Journal ArticleDOI

Mesoporous bioactive glasses: Promising platforms for antibacterial strategies

TL;DR: This review summarizes the state of the art of MBGs in this field, highlighting the latest evolutions and the specific role played by metallic antimicrobial ions that can be incorporated in the glass composition and then properly released.
