The main finding of Pippa Norris's study is that exposure to the news media is positively related to citizens' levels of political knowledge, trust, and participation, even after controlling for demographics, attitudinal factors, and cultural differences. Although various positive contributions of exposure to news media already have been documented in other research, never was the amount of evidence as monumental as in this book. Norris analyzed European Community, Eurobarometer, European Election and Post-election, British Campaign Panel, U.S. National Election, and Pew Center for the People and the Press surveys, providing individual and aggregate level, over-time and cross-sectional evidence supporting her virtuous media thesis. The book is set up as a challenge to "conventional wisdom" or "unquestioned orthodoxy" of media malaise theories that argue that "exposure to the news media discourages learning about politics, erodes trust in political leaders and government institutions, and dampens political mobilization." The problem is that there is a huge gap between the abundance of glib charges and the scarcity of empirical evidence of negative effects of news media. Consequently, Norris mostly relies on Michael Robinson's long ago retracted videomalaise claim and strays away from her main line of theorizing by reviewing studies that deal with the issues well outside the scope of her own study, such as effects of framing news stories, political advertising, and television entertainment. Findings of negative media effects in contexts other than elections and those tapping more specific types of media content and their particular features remain unchallenged by the Norris study. Norris acknowledges that "we need to compare the effects of variance in the media messages so that we can see whether people who consistently use one distinctive source (such as crime-focused local TV news) differ from those who use others (such as rightwing talk radio)" and that "our measures of media habits are often diffuse and imprecise," but she is still restricted in her research to measures of frequency of general newspaper and television news use. Nevertheless, Norris urges us to stopblaming the news media for political problems and instead to direct our attention to "the problems themselves." This call, without showing that media in many of their specific content characteristics or structures are not a part of problems that extend beyond voting and political campaigning, seems premature at best. The aim of this research is to prioritize IoT usage in the healthcare sector to achieve sustainable development. The study is an applied descriptive research according to data collection. As per the research methodology which is FAHP, it is a single cross sectional survey research. After data collection, the agreed paired comparison matrices, allocated to weighted criteria and the priority of IoT usage were determined. Based on the research findings, the two criteria of Economic Prosperity and Quality of Life achieved the highest priority for IoT sustainable development in the healthcare sector. Moreover, the top priorities for IoT in the area of health, according to the usage, were identified as Ultraviolet Radiation, Dental Health and Fall Detection.

The Rise of Internet of Things (IoT) in Big Healthcare Data: Review and Open Research Issues

This study examined the barriers to use of information technology (IT) in science education at the Yanbu school district in Saudi Arabia. Sub-domains investigated included: infrastructure and resources, policy and support, science teachers’ personal beliefs, and staff development. This chapter is using a survey which shows common barriers encountered by the science teachers were identified. Demographic data enabled description of science teachers based on similarities and differences of gender, location of the school, training, years of teaching experience, and age. Science teachers rated the barriers limiting their use of technology in teaching on a scale ranging from 0 (does not limit) to 3 (greatly limits). We present results which showed that all four domains were highly significant barriers: infrastructure and resources (M = 2.06, p<.001); staff development (M = 2.02, p<.001); policy and support (M = 1.84, p<.001); and science teachers’ personal beliefs regarding technology (M = 1.15, p<.001). The more bariers comes to face the teachers who are related to science and are experienced, the less likely they were to be IT users (r = -0.16, p = .02). To minimize the impact of these barriers and consequently improve the level of integration of information technology in science education in Saudi Arabia, a well-conceived strategic vision, adequate funding, and good implementation plan are of great importance.

The world has now entered in a new era of Computing, blessed with many prominent technologies including Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Internet of Things (IoT). In an IoT world, sensor enabled objects (things) are connected together via the Internet to participate in performing a particular task mainly by sending and receiving data from one to other. Artificial intelligence empowers agents (machines or devices) to perceive the surrounding environments leading to take calculative decisions, followed by performing efficient actions in order to maximizing the chances of successfully accomplishing a desired task or goal. In this research, we combine both IoT and AI to reduce traffic congestions in a smart city environment. A detailed literature review has been conducted and a simple solution based on AI Algorithm has been proposed. Future directions of the research has also been identified and advocated.
