Supply chain leadership and firm performance: A meta-analysis

Corporate social responsibility (CSR) facilitates increased innovation and enhanced reputation and business performance. Small and medium-sized enterprises are commonly acknowledged to be a driver of economic growth, so these firms’ CSR and the competitive advantages it generates are of great interest. This study examined whether corporate managers’ positive predisposition toward CSR initiatives explains their companies’ level of innovation, achieved performance, competitive success, and reputation. Structural equation modeling was used to analyze a sample of 109 companies operating in Spain’s Autonomous Community of Extremadura. The results confirm that companies generally have a favorable orientation toward CSR and this strategy’s benefits include developing and improving firms’ reputation.

Corporate Social Responsibility as an Antecedent of Innovation, Reputation, Performance, and Competitive Success: A Multiple Mediation Analysis

Interpretive structural modelling based analysis of sustainable manufacturing enablers

Sustainable supply chain management (SSCM) is a relatively new sub-field of supply chain management (SCM). The performance of SSCM is based on the triple bottom line approach encompassing people-planet-profit, hence being defined not in only in social and environmental terms, but also the economic. The purpose of this paper is to develop an integrated study which uses antecedent-practices-performance principles in order to determine the drivers of SSCM practices, and the impact of these practices on sustainable supply chain performance. The importance of the study lies in the fact that the Indian Government is making significant efforts to boost the manufacturing sector, and sustainability is among the significant imperatives for Indian manufacturing to be competitive globally.,A conceptual model based on the antecedents-practices-performance principles was developed, and included six constructs identified from the literature: the drivers being the motivators of sustainability, lean management (LM) and supply management (SM), the practices were the environmental and social practices in the supply chain and, finally, the sustainable supply chain performance; eight hypotheses were conceived in the model development process. The survey instrument was conceptualised from an in-depth study of literature and was employed to conduct a survey of 211 operations and supply chain managers and functional heads from the Indian manufacturing industry. The scales were validated by employing the confirmatory factor analysis, followed by structural equation modelling to develop the structural relationships between the constructs using Amos 20.0.,The results of the SEM suggest that the antecedents, i.e. motivators, LM and SM, have a significant bearing on environmental and social practices in the SCM; these practices, in turn, also have a positive relationship with SSCM performance (except the relationship between LM and social practices in SCM) with acceptable goodness-of-fit measures. Thus out of the eight hypotheses, seven can be said to statistically significant.,In addition to the motivators of sustainability, the study based on extant literature has considered LM and SM among the drivers of sustainability in SCM. The study has also identified that in earlier studies, the focus has been on environmental practices, and this integrated study has also included social practices in the supply chain.,This study suggests that sustainability performance may also be realised through lean and SM principles; an integrated perspective has been adopted with the consideration of both environmental and social practices. Further, the proposed model represents a novel integration of literature from diverse domains such as environmental management, business ethics and corporate social responsibility as well as performance management.

Sustainable supply chain management practices and performance: An integrated perspective from a developing economy

Critical success factors (CSFs) are the enablers to address the successful implementation of sustainable supply chain management (SSCM) practices in organizations. This study identifies and consolidates various relevant factors to develop the SSCM constructs conducive to supply chains in the Indian steel sector. A comprehensive framework of sustainability measurement has been developed through successive stages of data collection, analysis and refinement. Data have been collected from various departments of Tata Steel, SAIL, Essar and Jindal in India. The outcome of this research is a set of reliable, valid and unidimensional first-order measurements that can be subsequently used in conceptualization and measurement of the sustainability of supply chains in steel industry. Using factor analysis, we identify four constructs, namely favourable organizational environment, sustainable procurement initiatives, compliances to sustainability standards and external environmental pressures, which the organizations need to focus on. Additionally, using relative importance index ranking based on the survey data, the top three CSFs are compliance to environmental standards (ISO 14001 certification), safety and health focus (OHSAS 18001 certification) and top leadership commitment and support-all of which are within the organization’s own control. This study contributes to the continuing research of supply chain sustainability and provides supply chain managers with a practical approach for measuring and implementing sustainability practices across the steel supply chains.

Analysing the critical success factors for implementation of sustainable supply chain management: an Indian case study

From fish excretions to high-protein dietary ingredient: Feeding intensively cultured barramundi (Lates calcarifer) a diet containing microbial biomass (biofloc) from effluent of an aquaculture system

SCOPE
Microalgae are an emerging nutritional resource of biomolecules with potential to alleviate gut inflammation. We explored the anti-inflammatory and immunomodulatory potential of the microalga Lobosphaera incisa P127, which accumulates a rare omega-6 LC-PUFA dihomo-ɣ-linolenic acid (DGLA) under nitrogen starvation. The therapeutic potential of dietary supplementation with P127 was investigated in the zebrafish model of IBD (TNBS-induced colitis).


METHODS AND RESULTS
Guts were sampled from zebrafish fed experimental diets for four weeks, before and 24h after TNBS challenge. Diets containing 15% non-starved (Ns) and 7.5 and 15% N-starved (St) algal biomass significantly attenuated the severity of gut injury and goblet cell depletion. In contrast, diets containing 7.5 % Ns and DGLA ethyl ester had no effect on gut condition. Fish fed 15% St, high-DGLA biomass, had the fewest individuals with pathological alterations in the gut. Dietary inclusion of Ns and St distinctly modulated gut-associated expression of the immune and inflammatory genes. Fish fed 15% Ns biomass displayed a coordinated boost in immune gene expression and showed major changes in the gut microbiome prior challenge.


CONCLUSION
Dietary inclusion of L. incisa biomass at two physiological states, ameliorated TNBS-induced gut inflammation, suggesting the synergistic beneficial effects of biomass components not limited to DGLA. This article is protected by copyright. All rights reserved.
