Journal ArticleDOI
Radiofrequency ablation for persistent atrial fibrillation in patients with advanced heart failure and severe left ventricular systolic dysfunction: a randomised controlled trial
Michael R. MacDonald,Derek T. Connelly,Nathaniel M. Hawkins,Tracey Steedman,John R. Payne,Morag Shaw,Martin A. Denvir,Sai Bhagra,Sandy Small,Will Martin,John J.V. McMurray,Mark C. Petrie +11 more
TL;DR: RFA did improve radionuclide LVEF but did not improve other secondary outcomes and was associated with a significant rate of serious complications.
Journal ArticleDOI
Treatment of Type 2 Diabetes and Outcomes in Patients With Heart Failure: A Nested Case–Control Study From the U.K. General Practice Research Database
Michael R. MacDonald,Dean T. Eurich,Sumit R. Majumdar,James Lewsey,Sai Bhagra,Pardeep S. Jhund,Pardeep S. Jhund,Mark C. Petrie,John J.V. McMurray,John R. Petrie,Finlay A. McAlister +10 more
TL;DR: The results confirm the benefits of trial-proven anti-failure therapies in patients with diabetes and support the use of metformin-based strategies to lower glucose.
Journal ArticleDOI
A 5-year single-center early experience of heart transplantation from donation after circulatory-determined death donors.
Simon Messer,Sendi Cernic,Aravinda Page,Marius Berman,Pradeep Kaul,S. Colah,Jason M. Ali,E. Pavlushkov,Jen Baxter,Richard Quigley,Mohamed Osman,Eyal Nachum,Jayan Parameshwar,Y. Abu-Omar,John J. Dunning,Martin Goddard,Sai Bhagra,Stephen J. Pettit,Caitlin Cheshire,Clive Lewis,Anna C. Kydd,Ayyaz Ali,C. Sudarshan,David J. Jenkins,Steven Tsui,Roger Hall,Pedro Catarino,Stephen R. Large +27 more
TL;DR: D heart donation increased overall heart transplant activity at RPH by 48%, with no difference in 30-day or 1-year survival in comparison with conventional DBD heart transplantations, set to make a dramatic difference in the number of patients who can benefit from heart transplantation.
Journal ArticleDOI
Prognosis after surgical replacement with a bioprosthetic aortic valve in patients with severe symptomatic aortic stenosis: systematic review of observational studies
Farid Foroutan,Farid Foroutan,Gordon H. Guyatt,K. O'Brien,Eva Bain,M. Stein,Sai Bhagra,Daegan Sit,Rakhshan Kamran,Yaping Chang,Tahira Devji,Hassan Mir,Veena Manja,Veena Manja,Veena Manja,Toni Schofield,Reed A C Siemieniuk,Reed A C Siemieniuk,Thomas Agoritsas,Rodrigo Bagur,Catherine M Otto,Per Olav Vandvik,Per Olav Vandvik +22 more
TL;DR: Patients with severe symptomatic aortic stenosis undergoing SAVR with a bioprosthetic valve can expect only slightly lower survival than those without aorta stenosis, and a low incidence of stroke and, up to 10 years, of structural valve deterioration.
Journal ArticleDOI
Structural valve deterioration after transcatheter aortic valve implantation.
Farid Foroutan,Gordon H. Guyatt,Catherine M Otto,Reed A C Siemieniuk,Stefan Schandelmaier,Thomas Agoritsas,Per Olav Vandvik,Sai Bhagra,Rodrigo Bagur +8 more
TL;DR: Structural valve deterioration is probably an infrequent event within the first 5 years after TAVI, and retaining the impact of SVD and the need for valve-related re-interventions to inform recommendations for patients with a longer life-expectancy will require studies including a large number of patients with longer follow-up.
