Improving and Expanding Estimates of the Global Burden of Disease Due to Environmental Health Risk Factors
Rachel M. Shaffer,Samuel Sellers,Marissa G. Baker,Rebeca de Buen Kalman,Joseph Frostad,Joseph Frostad,Megan K Suter,Susan C. Anenberg,John Balbus,Niladri Basu,David C. Bellinger,Linda S. Birnbaum,Michael Brauer,Michael Brauer,Aaron J Cohen,Aaron J Cohen,Kristie L. Ebi,Richard Fuller,Philippe Grandjean,Philippe Grandjean,Jeremy J. Hess,Manolis Kogevinas,Pushpam Kumar,Philip J. Landrigan,Bruce P. Lanphear,Stephanie J. London,Andrew A. Rooney,Jeffrey D. Stanaway,Leonardo Trasande,Katherine Walker,Howard Hu,Howard Hu +31 more
TL;DR: The Global Burden of Disease–Pollution and Health Initiative is introduced and theGBD-PHI is introduced, which aims to work with IHME and the GBD study to improve estimates of disease burden attributable to EH risk factors and to develop an innovative approach to estimating climate-related disease burden.
Journal ArticleDOI
Climate Change and Health under the Shared Socioeconomic Pathway Framework.
Samuel Sellers,Kristie L. Ebi +1 more
TL;DR: Using a new set of socioeconomic development trajectories, the Shared Socioeconomic Pathways (SSPs), along with the World Health Organization’s Operational Framework for Building Climate Resilient Health Systems, existing storylines are extended to illustrate how various aspects of health systems are likely to be affected under each SSP.
Journal ArticleDOI
Climate Shocks Constrain Human Fertility in Indonesia.
Samuel Sellers,Clark Gray +1 more
TL;DR: It is found that fertility intentions increase and family planning use declines in response to delays in monsoon onset occurring within the previous year, particularly for wealthier populations, and that in some cases, climate shocks can constrain human fertility.
Journal ArticleDOI
Climate Change, Human Health, and Social Stability: Addressing Interlinkages.
TL;DR: A conceptual framework incorporating health outcomes and health systems into theorized and observed linkages between climate change and social instability is articulated, illustrating in particular the health effects of natural resource shortages, infectious disease outbreaks, and migration.
Journal ArticleDOI
Stress Testing the Capacity of Health Systems to Manage Climate Change-Related Shocks and Stresses
Kristie L. Ebi,Peter Berry,Katie Hayes,Christopher Boyer,Samuel Sellers,Paddy M. Enright,Paddy M. Enright,Jeremy J. Hess +7 more
TL;DR: This work provides detailed methods and guidance for conducting climate and health stress tests, centering on three primary activities: preparing and scoping the stress test; successfully conducting the stressTest; and communicating the results to key stakeholders to facilitate policy and programmatic reforms.
