Journal ArticleDOI
Gut microbiota and body composition in anorexia nervosa inpatients in comparison to athletes, overweight, obese, and normal weight controls.
Sabrina Mörkl,Sonja Lackner,Wolfram Müller,Gregor Gorkiewicz,Karl Kashofer,Andreas Oberascher,Annamaria Painold,Anna K. Holl,Peter Holzer,Andreas Meinitzer,Harald Mangge,Sandra Holasek +11 more
TL;DR: This study provides further evidence of intestinal dysbiosis in AN and sheds light on characteristics of the gut microbiome in different BMI and physical activity groups and point to new modulation possibilities of the Gut microbiota which could improve the standard therapy of AN.
Journal ArticleDOI
Gut microbiota, dietary intakes and intestinal permeability reflected by serum zonulin in women
Sabrina Mörkl,Sonja Lackner,Andreas Meinitzer,Harald Mangge,M. Lehofer,Bettina Halwachs,Gregor Gorkiewicz,Karl Kashofer,Annamaria Painold,Anna K. Holl,Susanne Bengesser,Wolfram Müller,Peter Holzer,Sandra Holasek +13 more
TL;DR: Gut permeability reflected by serum zonulin and diversity of the gut microbiome were investigated in this cross-sectional study involving female study participants with different activity and BMI levels and butyrate-producing gut bacteria such as Faecalibacteria could decrease gut permeability and lower inflammation.
Journal ArticleDOI
The Role of Nutrition and the Gut-Brain Axis in Psychiatry: A Review of the Literature.
Sabrina Mörkl,Jolana Wagner-Skacel,Theresa Lahousen,Sonja Lackner,Sandra Holasek,Susanne Bengesser,Annamaria Painold,Anna K. Holl,Eva Z. Reininghaus +8 more
TL;DR: Besides pharmacological therapy, psychotherapy and physical activity, nutritional interventions are an important pillar in the multifactorial, biopsychosocial treatment of psychiatric disease and could be used as a potential therapeutic target.
Journal ArticleDOI
Standardized Ultrasound Measurement of Subcutaneous Fat Patterning: High Reliability and Accuracy in Groups Ranging from Lean to Obese
Paul Störchle,Wolfram Müller,Marietta Sengeis,Helmut Ahammer,Alfred Fürhapter-Rieger,Norbert Bachl,Sonja Lackner,Sabrina Mörkl,Sandra Holasek +8 more
TL;DR: A recently standardized ultrasound technique for measuring subcutaneous adipose tissue (SAT) was applied to normal-weight, overweight and obese persons, showing high measurement accuracy and reliability can be obtained in all groups, from lean to overweight and obesity, provided that measurers are trained appropriately.
Journal ArticleDOI
Absorption Profile of (Poly)Phenolic Compounds after Consumption of Three Food Supplements Containing 36 Different Fruits, Vegetables, and Berries
Letizia Bresciani,Daniela Martini,Pedro Mena,Michele Tassotti,Luca Calani,Giacomo Brigati,Furio Brighenti,Sandra Holasek,Daniela-Eugenia Malliga,Manfred Lamprecht,Daniele Del Rio,Daniele Del Rio +11 more
TL;DR: Investigation of the absorption profile of the (poly)phenolic compounds contained in three different plant-based food supplements, made of 36 different plant matrices, showed that the consumption of the three capsules allowed the effective absorption of several ( poly) Phenolic compounds and metabolites appearing at different times in plasma, thereby indicating different absorption profiles.
