Chemical-informatics approach to COVID-19 drug discovery: Monte Carlo based QSAR, virtual screening and molecular docking study of some in-house molecules as papain-like protease (PLpro) inhibitors.

Ultra-dense networks (UDNs), which can provide extremely high throughput and data rates, have been considered as one of the key techniques for the fifth generation mobile networks. However, it may cause severe inter-cell interference and significant energy consumption due to numerous base stations (BSs) being randomly deployed. To mitigate the interference and boost energy efficiency (EE) of the UDN effectively, we propose a cluster-based energy-efficient resource allocation scheme in this paper. The proposed scheme has two stages: clustering stage and resource allocation stage. In clustering stage, we use a modified K-means algorithm in BS-clustering process to dynamically adjust the number of BS-clusters based on the density of BSs. Then, in each BS cluster, we divide user equipments (UEs) into multiple UE-groups with minimum intra-cluster interference. In this way, the complexity of resource allocation can be greatly reduced. While in resource allocation stage, we design a two-step resource blocks assignment algorithm and an iterative energy efficient power allocation algorithm based on a non-cooperative game. Furthermore, we implement simulations under the realistic broadband channel propagation conditions and the simulation results show that the proposed approach can effectively mitigate the interference and improve the EE of UDN.

Closed-cell aluminum foams represent a unique class of solid cellular light metals that are made by deliberately introducing voids or pores during fabrication. This lightweight material is able to undergo large deformation at a nearly constant stress known as Plateau Stress because of which aluminum foams are good energy absorbers under dynamic loads such as an impact. In this investigation, carbon nanotubes (CNT) reinforced closed-cell aluminum foams were fabricated using the liquid metallurgy route through the dissociation of a foaming agent within the liquid metal. Four different relative densities of CNT reinforced Al-foam were used: 0.16, 0.20, 0.26 and 0.30, to study the effect of strain rate on the mechanical properties. The compressive mechanical behavior of CNT reinforced Al-foam has been studied under quasi-static and dynamic loading conditions. The high strain rate compressive response was investigated using a Split Hopkinson Pressure Bar (SHPB) over a range of strain rates up to 2750 s−1. Mechanical properties such as peak stress, plateau stress and energy absorption increased with the increase in relative density; however, the densification strain decreased with the increase in relative density. Dynamic compressive properties improved as the strain rate increased indicating that this material is strain rate dependent. Among all the foams, the 0.30 relative density exhibited the highest mechanical properties whereas the 0.20 relative density foam displayed the highest strain rate sensitivity.

In technical education, laboratory components comprise an essential and integral part without which engineering education remains incomplete. Experiments conducted on laboratory equipments lend a practical touch to the theoretical knowledge acquired by the students. However, setting up a specialized laboratory consisting of sophisticated and expensive equipments such as Digital Storage Oscilloscope, Signal Generator, Spectrum Analyzer and Network Analyzer is an expensive and unaffordable proposition for many universities and engineering colleges. Sophisticated technologies incorporated in recent models of such high-end equipments enable remote access through Internet to the instruments. This concept of accessing these expensive instruments over the Internet can be exploited by setting up a Remote Laboratory. This remote laboratory system aims at not only providing an opportunity to students from distant places to conduct hardware experiments but also to take the corresponding measurements. In this work, real-time hardware experiments have been designed and implemented. These are based on modulation techniques widely employed in Communication Engineering. An interactive Graphical User Interface (GUI) environment has also been developed using Microsoft Visual Basic. This GUI is provided at the user end to facilitate the remote control and access of various instruments and experiment setups. It has been specifically designed and optimized for a low-bandwidth remote access link. The above mentioned system, as a whole, uses real-time capture of images and data from the instruments to perform experiment-related measurements.

Remote Communication Engineering Experiments Through Internet

Rain water quality is a vital factor for deciding whether the water is drinkable or not. But increase in urbanization could degrade the quality of rain water. In the present study, rain water was collected from different sampling locations near and far from urban centers. The influences of urbanization were analyzed with the help of the relationship between water quality index (WQI) of the collected samples and urbanization index (UI) of the sampling location. The WQI was developed with the help of different water quality parameters and their standards. The index was developed as per the standards of drinking water prescribed by All India Public Health Engineering and with the help of “Water Classifier” software developed by Majumder (2008). The urbanization index for the present study was developed as a function of population density, change in population within sampling locations, and density of residential and commercial complexes areas within a radius of 5 km of the sampling locations. According to the results, the relationship between WQI and UI was inversely proportional in sampling locations of both South and North 24 Parganas, which are located in southern and northern outskirts of Kolkata but the slope of the relationship is more tilted in case of sampling points located in South 24 Parganas, than in case of the samples taken from North 24 Parganas. As most of the polluting commercial complexes (leather, textile) were situated in southern outskirts of Kolkata and huge number of residential complexes were present or in verge of completion in the region, there was a massive migration of population from different parts of Kolkata to South 24 Parganas, The service and IT sectors, the nonpolluting industries of Kolkata were concentrated in the northern outskirts. The justification of the relationship between WQI and UI in southern and northern outskirts of Kolkata can be attributed to the above fact. The present study, thus, concluded that there is an impact of urbanization on quality of rain water in Kolkata. The same study can be made in other metro cities of India to verify the veracity of the relationship. The present study was conducted with very few sampling locations but still the locations were situated in regions of different UI and WQI. The study can be repeated with more sampling locations within the city with samples, which have more diverse WQI and UI.

Synthesis, anticancer activity, structure-activity relationship and binding mode of interaction studies of substituted pentanoic acids.

This paper refers to the development of an OCR for the Assamese language by modifying an existing OCR for the Bangla language. This modification is feasible because the Assamese script is similar, except for a few characters, to the Bangla script. The OCR incorporates a two stage recognizer using SVM classifier with no post-processing. A spell-checker capable of detecting most errors and interactively recommending some corrections is implemented. The OCR is tested with about 1800 pages of good quality printed documents. The accuracy achieved is about 97%.
