Journal ArticleDOI

Distribution of leptocephali of the freshwater eels, genus Anguilla, in the waters off west Sumatra in the Indian Ocean

TL;DR: The distributions of leptocephali from the two surveys and the patterns of ocean currents in the region suggest the possibility that the main spawning area of this species is located farther offshore.
Journal ArticleDOI

Seasonality of spawning by tropical anguillid eels around Sulawesi Island, Indonesia

TL;DR: Research on leptocephali in Tomini Bay and data on the downstream migration of tropical anguillids in the major tributary toTomini Bay indicate that A. celebesensis may have a distinct seasonal pattern of spawning possibly related to the regional monsoon cycles.
Journal Article

Observations of gut contents of leptocephali in the North Equatorial Current and Tomini Bay, Indonesia

TL;DR: In this article, the authors observed visible objects in the gut contents of 13 leptocephali of 11 species and 8 families of eels were observed using photo-graphs of daycaught larvae in two different types of marine habitats: the open ocean (North Equatorial Current) and a semi-enclosed deep-water bay (Tomini Bay of Sulawesi Island, Indonesia).
Journal ArticleDOI

Gonadal development in a giant threatened reef fish, the humphead wrasse Cheilinus undulatus, and its relationship to international trade.

TL;DR: In consideration of the threatened status of this species, management for C. undulatus capture and trade nationally and internationally are discussed with recommendations for ensuring sufficient spawning biomass in exploited populations and for sustainable trade.
Journal Article

Distribution, Diversity, and Abundance of Garden Eel Larvae off West Sumatra, Indonesia

TL;DR: The smallest sizes and the greatest abundances were collected in the northern region of the study area near the most extensive areas of continental shelf along west Sumatra, suggesting that many garden eel leptocephali had been transported offshore by strong currents.
