Journal ArticleDOI
Effects of saline and osmotic stress on proline and sugar accumulation in Populus euphratica in vitro.
TL;DR: It is suggested that accumulated proline and sugars promote osmotic and salt tolerance and the effects of salt and mannitol in the medium on prolines and sugar accumulation were investigated in two poplar species, P. euphratica and P. tomentosa.
Journal ArticleDOI
Changes in carbon storage in fallow forests in the tropical lowlands of Borneo
TL;DR: In this article, the authors investigated the floristic composition and measured the biomass of fallow forests in East Kalimantan, Indonesia, and found that the above-ground biomass of these forests were 8-10 t/ha at one-year-old stands and 45-56 t/h/h at 10-12 years.
Journal ArticleDOI
Acacia mangium, a nurse tree candidate for reforestation on degraded sandy soils in the Malay Peninsula
Mariko Norisada,G. Hitsuma,K. Kuroda,Takashi Yamanoshita,Masaya Masumori,Takeshi Tange,Hisayoshi Yagi,Tanit Nuyim,Satohiko Sasaki,Katsumi Kojima +9 more
TL;DR: In this article, the suitability of Acacia mangium Willd, a fast-growing tropical leguminous tree, as a nurse tree for reforestation with indigenous species on severely degraded sandy soils in southern Thailand was investigated.
Journal ArticleDOI
Impacts of secondary seed dispersal and herbivory on seedling survival in Aesculus turbinata
TL;DR: Primary seed dispersal in this species seems to be effective in ‘finding’ safe sites and in ’escaping’ density-dependent mortality, and secondary dispersed seeds appear to mitigate these disadvantages.
Journal ArticleDOI
Aluminum distribution and reactive oxygen species accumulation in root tips of two Melaleuca trees differing in aluminum resistance
Ko Tahara,Ko Tahara,Takashi Yamanoshita,Mariko Norisada,Isao Hasegawa,Hiroyuki Kashima,Satohiko Sasaki,Katsumi Kojima +7 more
TL;DR: In this article, the authors investigated the responses of root tips to Al and compared them with those of an Al-sensitive species, M. bracteata F. Muell.
