Journal ArticleDOI
Histone H3 Lysine 9 Methylation and HP1γ Are Associated with Transcription Elongation through Mammalian Chromatin
TL;DR: It is shown that H3K9 di- and trimethylation occur in the transcribed region of active genes in mammalian chromatin and this modification is dynamic, as it increases during activation of transcription and is rapidly removed upon gene repression.
Journal ArticleDOI
Exchange of GATA factors mediates transitions in looped chromatin organization at a developmentally regulated gene locus
Huie Jing,Christopher R. Vakoc,Lei Ying,Sean A. Mandat,Hongxin Wang,Xingwu Zheng,Gerd A. Blobel,Gerd A. Blobel +7 more
TL;DR: This work shows that a GATA factor exchange reconfigures higher-order chromatin organization, and suggests that de novo chromatin loop formation is employed by nuclear factors to specify repressive outcomes.
Journal ArticleDOI
Histone H3 Lysine 9 Methylation and HP1γ Are Associated with Transcription Elongation through Mammalian Chromatin.
TL;DR: H3K9 methylation and HP1γ not only function in repressive chromatin, but play a novel and unexpected role during transcription activation, which further elucidate new combinations of histone modifications that distinguish between repressed and actively transcribing chromatin.
