This critical review covers the present state of the art in optical sensing of glucose. Following an introduction into the significance of (continuous) sensing of glucose and a brief look back, we discuss methods based on (a) monitoring the optical properties of intrinsically fluorescent or labeled enzymes, their co-enzymes and co-substrates; (b) the measurement of the products of enzymatic oxidation of glucose by glucose oxidase; (c) the use of synthetic boronic acids; (d) the use of Concanavalin A; and (e) the application of other glucose-binding proteins. We finally present an assessment in terms of the advantages and disadvantages of the various methods (237 references).

Glucose sensing employing fluorescent pH indicator: 4-[(p-N,N-dimethylamino)benzylidene]-2-phenyloxazole-5-one

Nano-ZnO-chitosan bio-composite beads were prepared for the sorption of $${\text{UO}}_{2}^{{2+}}$$
 from aqueous media. The resulting nano-ZnO/CTS bio-composite beads were characterized by TEM, XRD etc. The sorption of $${\text{UO}}_{2}^{{2+}}$$
 by bio-composite beads was optimized using RSM. The correlation between four variables was modelled and studied. According to RSM data, correlation coefficients (R2 = 0.99) and probability F-values (F = 2.24 × 10− 10) show that the model fits the experimental data well. Adsorption capacity for nano-ZnO/CTS bio-composite beads was obtained at 148.7 mg/g under optimum conditions. The results indicate that nano-ZnO/CTS bio-composite beads are appropriate for the adsorption of $${\text{UO}}_{2}^{{2+}}$$
 ions from aqueous media. Also, the suitability of adsorption values to adsorption isotherms was researched and thermodynamic data were calculated.

Modelling and Optimization of Uranium (VI) Ions Adsorption Onto Nano-ZnO/Chitosan Bio-composite Beads with Response Surface Methodology (RSM)

Polifenol oksidaz (PPO) enzimi yer elmasindan izole edilmistir. PPO, katekol, L-dopa, DL-dopa ya karsi aktivite gostermis fakat bir monofenol olan L-tirozine karsi aktivite gostermemistir. Yer elmasindan izole edilen PPO nun optimum pH ve sicaklik degeri sirasiyla 7.0 ve 25 °C dir. Enzim notr pH civarinda oldukca kararlidir. 60 ve 80 °C deki aktivitenin % 50 inaktivasyonu icin gerekli olan zaman sirasiyla, 40 ve 20 dakika olarak bulunmustur. Katekol icin Km ve Vmax degerleri sirasiyla, 5.88 mM ve 25 402 IU/mg.min dir. En cok inhibitor etkisi gosteren maddeler potasyum siyanid, β-merkaptoetanol ve tiyouredir.
