Journal ArticleDOI

Effect of organic solvents on in vitro human skin water barrier function

TL;DR: The ability of the different solvents to induce changes in the skin's barrier function was assessed by comparing pre- to post-solvent exposure TEWL, and the interaction of the two (exposure time and solvent type together) was the strongest predictor.
Journal ArticleDOI

Calorimetric and electron spin resonance examination of lipid phase transitions in human stratum corneum: Molecular basis for normal cohesion and abnormal desquamation in recessive X-linked ichthyosis

TL;DR: A model is proposed that invokes abnormal hydrogen bonding, due to increased cholesteryl sulfate, as the mechanism for the abnormal desquamation in recessive X-linked ichthyosis.
Journal ArticleDOI

Localization of lipid microdomains and thermal phenomena in murine stratum corneum and isolated membrane complexes: An electron spin resonance study

TL;DR: The usefulness of ESR for the localization and characterization of lipid microenvironments in the stratum corneum and the apparent reduction of the spin probe in solvent extracted SCM is demonstrated, suggesting the presence of a previously unrecognized free radical reducing mechanism in these sites.
Journal ArticleDOI

The interaction of albumin and concanavalin A with normal and sickle human erythrocytes.

TL;DR: The interaction of human albumin and concanavalin A with normal and sickle human red blood cells previously washed in phosphate buffer at pH = 7.4 was studied by titration calorimetry.
Journal ArticleDOI

Stability of hydrocarbon-in-water emulsions during centrifugation. Influence of dispersed phase composition

TL;DR: In this article, the coalescence of pure hydrocarbons in water stabilized by sodium dodecyl sulfate was studied during centrifugation in order to investigate the influence of composition of the dispersed phase on emulsion stability.
