A New Mechanism of Hook Formation during Continuous Casting of Ultra-Low-Carbon Steel Slabs

TL;DR: In this paper, a detailed mechanism for the formation of curved hooks and their associated periodic oscillation marks was presented, based on a careful analysis of numerous specially etched samples from ultra-low-carbon steel slabs combined with previous measurements, observations, and theoretical modeling results.
Journal ArticleDOI

Transient Fluid Flow during Steady Continuous Casting of Steel Slabs: Part I. Measurements and Modeling of Two-phase Flow

TL;DR: In this paper, the up-and-down jet wobbling caused by transient swirl in the slide-gate nozzle was found to influence transient argon gas distribution and the location of jet impingement on the narrow face.
Journal ArticleDOI

Transient Mold Fluid Flow with Well- and Mountain-Bottom Nozzles in Continuous Casting of Steel

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors applied computational models and experiments with a one-third scale water model to characterize flow in the nozzle and mold to evaluate well-bottom and mountain-bottom nozzle performance.
Journal ArticleDOI

Transient Two-Phase Flow in Slide-Gate Nozzle and Mold of Continuous Steel Slab Casting with and without Double-Ruler Electro-Magnetic Braking

TL;DR: In this article, two large eddy simulations coupled with a discrete phase model are run, with and without magneto-hydroDynamic model, to gain new insights into the surface variations of molten steel-argon gas flow with anisotropic turbulence in the slide-gate nozzle and the mold.
Journal ArticleDOI

Effect of yttrium on the stability of aluminide-yttrium composite coatings in a cyclic high-temperature hot-corrosion environment

TL;DR: In this article, a composite coating of aluminide-yttrium has shown excellent corrosion resistance in a cyclic high-temperature hot-corrosion environment, and the performance of the composite coating was evaluated by isothermal oxidation and cyclic hot corrosion.
