Journal ArticleDOI

Detection of diarrheagenic Escherichia coli strains isolated from dogs and cats in Brazil.

TL;DR: It is demonstrated that pets carry virulent DEC genes, which are mainly strains of EPECs and EAECs, and the presence of these virulence factors in isolates from animals without diarrhea suggests that pets can act as a reservoir for human infection.
Journal ArticleDOI

Molecular Detection of HpmA and HlyA Hemolysin of Uropathogenic Proteus mirabilis

TL;DR: The PCR technique has good sensitivity for detecting the hpmA and hpmB genes of P. mirabilis, which are used by the bacteria to damage the kidney tissues.
Journal ArticleDOI

Atypical enteropathogenic Escherichia coli that contains functional locus of enterocyte effacement genes can be attaching-and-effacing negative in cultured epithelial cells.

TL;DR: The data indicate that FAS-negative aEPec strains are potentially able to induce A/E in vivo, emphasizing the concern about this test for the determination of aEPEC virulence.
Journal ArticleDOI

Antiviral therapies: advances and perspectives.

TL;DR: 96 antivirals approved by the Food and Drug Administration between 1987 and 2019 are summarized and strategies are suggested as inhibitors of viral replication by various means, such as direct binding to the viral particle, blocking the infection, changes in intracellular mechanisms or viral genes, preventing replication and virion formation.
