Journal ArticleDOI
Real-time dominant frequency mapping and ablation of dominant frequency sites in atrial fibrillation with left-to-right frequency gradients predicts long-term maintenance of sinus rhythm.
Felipe Atienza,Jesús Almendral,José Jalife,Sharon Zlochiver,Robert Ploutz-Snyder,Esteban G. Torrecilla,Angel Arenal,Jérôme Kalifa,Francisco Fernández-Avilés,Omer Berenfeld +9 more
TL;DR: Radiofrequency ablation leading to elimination of LA-to-RA frequency gradients predicts long-term SR maintenance in AF patients.
Journal ArticleDOI
Spatial Distribution of Fibrosis Governs Fibrillation Wave Dynamics in the Posterior Left Atrium During Heart Failure
Kazuhiko Tanaka,Sharon Zlochiver,Karen L. Vikstrom,Masatoshi Yamazaki,Javier Moreno,Matthew Klos,Alexey V. Zaitsev,Ravi Vaidyanathan,David S. Auerbach,Steve K. Landas,Gerard M. Guiraudon,José Jalife,Omer Berenfeld,Jérôme Kalifa +13 more
TL;DR: Computer simulations using 2-dimensional human atrial models with structural and ionic remodeling as in HF demonstrated that changes in AF activation frequency and dynamics were controlled by the interaction of electrical waves with clusters of fibrotic patches of various sizes and individual pulmonary vein ostia.
Journal ArticleDOI
Electrotonic Myofibroblast-to-Myocyte Coupling Increases Propensity to Reentrant Arrhythmias in Two-Dimensional Cardiac Monolayers
Sharon Zlochiver,Viviana Muñoz,Viviana Muñoz,Karen L. Vikstrom,Steven M. Taffet,Omer Berenfeld,José Jalife +6 more
TL;DR: The results provide novel insight into the mechanisms whereby electrical myocyte-myofibroblast interactions modify wave propagation and the propensity to reentrant arrhythmias.
Journal ArticleDOI
Rotor meandering contributes to irregularity in electrograms during atrial fibrillation.
TL;DR: It is hypothesized that a meandering reentrant AF source contributes to the wave fractionation and is reflected in the power spectrum of local electrograms elsewhere in the rotor's surroundings, and increased meandering of the rotor driving AF reduces activation periodicity and increases fractionation.
Journal ArticleDOI
Mechanisms of Fractionated Electrograms Formation in the Posterior Left Atrium during Paroxysmal Atrial Fibrillation in Humans
Felipe Atienza,David Calvo,Jesús Almendral,Sharon Zlochiver,Krzysztof R. Grzeda,Nieves Martínez-Alzamora,Esteban González-Torrecilla,Angel Arenal,Francisco Fernández-Avilés,Omer Berenfeld +9 more
TL;DR: During induced AF, SI shortening after either drift or acceleration of a source results in intermittent fibrillatory conduction and formation of fractionated electrograms at the PLAW.
