Alginate-graphene oxide hydrogels with enhanced ionic tunability and chemomechanical stability for light-directed 3D printing
Thomas M. Valentin,Alexander K. Landauer,Luke C. Morales,Eric M. DuBois,Shashank Shukla,Muchun Liu,Lauren H. Stephens Valentin,Christian Franck,Po-Yen Chen,Ian Y. Wong +9 more
TL;DR: Alginate-graphene oxide (GO) hydrogels using a non-covalent, ionic crosslinking mechanism compatible with light-directed 3D printing are demonstrated and can be stereolithographically printed into robust, freestanding and overhanging 3D structures.
Journal ArticleDOI
Auranofin releasing antibacterial and antibiofilm polyurethane intravascular catheter coatings
Hanyang Liu,Shashank Shukla,Noel Vera-gonzalez,Nagendran Tharmalingam,Eleftherios Mylonakis,Beth Burgwyn Fuchs,Anita Shukla +6 more
TL;DR: A novel auranofin releasing antibacterial and antibiofilm polyurethane (PU) catheter coating was developed and investigated for future use in preventing CRBSIs and was found to be highly stretchable and hemocompatible with human erythrocytes and maintain liver cell viability.
Journal ArticleDOI
Tunable antibiotic delivery from gellan hydrogels
Shashank Shukla,Anita Shukla +1 more
TL;DR: Gellan, a U.S. Food and Drug Administration approved food additive, is used to develop antibiotic loaded hydrogels, demonstrating that vancomycin activity is preserved upon encapsulation and are non-toxic to important wound healing cells including fibroblasts and mesenchymal stem cells.
Journal ArticleDOI
Development of Probiotic Formulations for Oral Candidiasis Prevention: Gellan Gum as a Carrier To Deliver Lactobacillus paracasei 28.4.
Felipe de Camargo Ribeiro,Juliana Campos Junqueira,Jéssica Diane dos Santos,Patrícia Pimentel de Barros,Rodnei Dennis Rossoni,Shashank Shukla,Beth Burgwyn Fuchs,Anita Shukla,Eleftherios Mylonakis +8 more
TL;DR: Results indicate that gellan gum is a promising biomaterial and can be used as a carrier system to promote oral colonization for probiotics that prevent oral candidiasis.
