Journal ArticleDOI
Evidence that transgenes encoding components of the Wnt signaling pathway preferentially induce mammary cancers from progenitor cells
Yi Li,Bryan E. Welm,Katrina Podsypanina,Shixia Huang,Mario Chamorro,Xiaomei Zhang,Tracey M Rowlands,Mikala Egeblad,Pamela Cowin,Zena Werb,Lee K. Tan,Jeffrey M. Rosen,Harold E. Varmus +12 more
TL;DR: The results suggest that mammary stem cells and/or progenitors to mammary luminal epithelial and myoepithelial cells may be the targets for oncogenesis by Wnt-1 signaling elements.
Journal ArticleDOI
Changes in gene expression during the development of mammary tumors in MMTV-Wnt-1 transgenic mice.
Shixia Huang,Shixia Huang,Yi Li,Yi Li,Yi Chen,Katrina Podsypanina,Mario Chamorro,Adam B. Olshen,Kartiki V. Desai,Kartiki V. Desai,Anne Tann,David Petersen,Jeffrey E. Green,Harold E. Varmus +13 more
TL;DR: It is found that the progression of normal virgin mammary glands to hyperplastic tissues and to mammary tumors is accompanied by differences in the expression of several hundred genes at each step, which appear to be unique to the effects of Wnt signaling; others seem to be common to tumors induced by both Neu and Wnt-1 oncogenes.
Journal ArticleDOI
Founder effect of a prevalent phenylketonuria mutation in the Oriental population.
Tao Wang,Y. Okano,Randy C. Eisensmith,M L Harvey,W H Lo,Shixia Huang,Y T Zeng,L F Yuan,J I Furuyama,T Oura +9 more
TL;DR: The data demonstrate unambiguously that the mutation occurred after racial divergence of Orientals and Caucasians and suggest that the allele has spread throughout the Orient by a founder effect.
Additional file 2: Figure S1. of Upregulation of EGFR signaling is correlated with tumor stroma remodeling and tumor recurrence in FGFR1-driven breast cancer
Xue B. Holdman,Thomas Welte,Kimal Rajapakshe,Adam C. Pond,Cristian Coarfa,Qianxing Mo,Shixia Huang,Susan G. Hilsenbeck,Dean P. Edwards,Xiang Zhang,Jeffrey M. Rosen +10 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors investigated the mechanisms of tumor dormancy and recurrence in a preclinical mouse model of breast cancer and employed a transplantable Wnt1/inducible fibroblast growth factor receptor (FGFR) 1 mouse mammary tumor model and utilized an FGFR specific inhibitor to study the recurrence after treatment.
