Dipolar reorientation and phase transitions in mixed alkali-halide-alkali-cyanide crystals
TL;DR: In this article, the results of Luty and Ortiz-Lopez relating the cyanide reorientation rates to the high-temperature phase diagrams of alkali-halide-alkali-cyanide mixed crystals can be understood within simple mean-field theory.
Journal ArticleDOI
Instabilities of Jammed Packings of Frictionless Spheres Under Load.
TL;DR: It is shown that on approaching an instability, the frequency of a normal mode and the height of the energy barrier to cross into a new ground state both vanish, and these instabilities produce a contribution to the density of vibrational states that scales as ω^{3} at low frequencies ω, and to the distribution of energy barriers ΔH that Scale as ΔH^{-1/3}\ at low barrier heights.

Seeing the invisible—Air vortices around a splashing drop
Journal ArticleDOI
Periodicity of transport coefficients with half flux quanta in the Aharonov-Bohm effect
TL;DR: In this article, it was shown that all transport coefficients of a dirty normal metal in the Aharonov-Bohm geometry are exactly periodic with a period of a half flux quantum.
Journal ArticleDOI
Convection in vertically vibrated granular materials
E. E. Ehrichs,Janna K. Flint,Heinrich M. Jaeger,James B. Knight,Sidney R. Nagel,Greg S. Karczmar,V. Yu. Kuperman +6 more
TL;DR: Most of the work concerns containers with vertical walls, although some results are mentioned that deal with convection in containers with walls that were splayed outwards.
