Journal ArticleDOI
Lymphocyte infiltrates as a prognostic variable in female breast cancer
Sirpa Aaltomaa,Pertti Lipponen,Matti Eskelinen,Veli-Matti Kosma,S. Marin,Esko Alhava,Kari Syrjänen +6 more
TL;DR: The results clearly confirm the presence of efficient immunological antitumour defence mechanisms in human breast cancer and tumour-host interactions are subject to further studies particularly in axillary lymph-node negative breast cancer.
Journal ArticleDOI
Apoptosis in breast cancer as related to histopathological characteristics and prognosis
TL;DR: Apoptotic cells were quantitated by light microscopy in a series of 288 breast carcinomas, and their number (cells/mm2 of neoplastic epithelium, i.e., the apoptotic index, AI) was related to various histopathological features and disease outcome.
Journal ArticleDOI
High stromal hyaluronan level is associated with poor differentiation and metastasis in prostate cancer
TL;DR: The results show that stromal HA accumulation is related to several malignant features and adverse clinical outcome in prostate cancer, and further studies based on uniformly treated patient cohorts are needed to establish the clinical significance of these findings.
Journal ArticleDOI
Apoptosis suppressing protein bcl-2 is expressed in well-differentiated breast carcinomas with favourable prognosis.
TL;DR: In multivariate analysis, bcl‐2 expression had no independent prognostic value in the entire cohort or in axillary lymph node‐negative breast carcinomas, whereas it was a weakindependent prognostic factor in axilla lymph nodes‐positive breast carcinoma.
Journal ArticleDOI
Apoptosis in bladder cancer as related to standard prognostic factors and prognosis.
Pertti Lipponen,Sirpa Aaltomaa +1 more
TL;DR: The results show that AI is related particularly to mitotic activity in transitional cell bladder tumours, while AI as assessed by light microscopy hardly has any independent prognostic significance.
