Journal ArticleDOI
Antiartherosclerotic effects of plant flavonoids.
Shamala Salvamani,Baskaran Gunasekaran,Noor Azmi Shaharuddin,Siti Aqlima Ahmad,Mohd. Yunus Abd. Shukor +4 more
TL;DR: The antiatherosclerotic effects of selected plant flavonoids, such as quercetin, kaempferol, myricet in, rutin, naringenin, catechin, fisetIn, and gossypetin are discussed.
Journal ArticleDOI
Recent advances on the role of process variables affecting gelatin yield and characteristics with special reference to enzymatic extraction: A review
Tanbir Ahmad,Amin Ismail,Siti Aqlima Ahmad,Khalilah Abdul Khalil,Yogesh Kumar,Kazeem Dauda Adeyemi,Kazeem Dauda Adeyemi,Awis Qurni Sazili +7 more
TL;DR: Albeit higher gelatin yield was obtained, there were simultaneous degradation of α and β chains of the gelatin, which lowers the gelatin quality, particularly the gel strength.
Journal ArticleDOI
Enhanced phenol degradation by immobilized Acinetobacter sp. strain AQ5NOL 1.
Siti Aqlima Ahmad,Nor Aripin Shamaan,Noorliza Mat Arif,Gan Bee Koon,M.Y. Shukor,Mohd Arif Syed +5 more
TL;DR: The study has shown an increased efficiency of phenol degradation when the cells are encapsulated in gellan gum and its ability to degrade phenol was compared with the free cells.
Journal ArticleDOI
HMG-CoA reductase inhibitory activity and phytocomponent investigation of Basella alba leaf extract as a treatment for hypercholesterolemia.
Gunasekaran Baskaran,Shamala Salvamani,Siti Aqlima Ahmad,Noor Azmi Shaharuddin,Parveen Devi Pattiram,Mohd. Yunus Abd. Shukor +5 more
TL;DR: In this study, 25 medicinal plant methanol extracts were screened for anti-HMG-CoA reductase activity and Basella alba leaf extract showed the highest inhibitory effect at about 74%.
Journal ArticleDOI
Keratinase production and biodegradation of polluted secondary chicken feather wastes by a newly isolated multi heavy metal tolerant bacterium-Alcaligenes sp. AQ05-001
Ibrahim Yusuf,Siti Aqlima Ahmad,Lai Yee Phang,Mohd Arif Syed,Nor Aripin Shamaan,Khalilah Abdul Khalil,Farrah Aini Dahalan,Mohd. Yunus Abd. Shukor +7 more
TL;DR: Under optimum conditions, the novel heavy metal-tolerant feather-degrading bacterium was able to degrade heavy metal polluted feathers completely and produced valuable keratinase and protein-rich hydrolysates.
