Effective long-term management of parathyromatosis-related refractory hypercalcemia with a combination of denosumab and cinacalcet treatment
Τhemistoklis Tzotzas,A Goropoulos,Spyridon N. Karras,A K Terzaki,Athanasios Siolos,Argyrios Doumas,Thomas Zaramboukas,Stelios Tigas +7 more
TL;DR: The first report of off-label denosumab use in combination with cinacalcet in the long-term management of parathyromatosis-related refractory hypercalcemia is described, successful in maintaining the patient’s serum calcium in the normal/upper-normal range over a 36-month period with no significant side effects.
Journal ArticleDOI
Characterizing neonatal vitamin D deficiency in the modern era: A maternal-neonatal birth cohort from Southern Europe.
Spyridon N. Karras,Theocharis Koufakis,Vasiliki Antonopoulou,Dimitrios G. Goulis,Cédric Annweiler,Cédric Annweiler,Stefan Pilz,Helen Bili,Declan P. Naughton,Iltaf Shah,Vikentia Harizopoulou,Pantelis Zebekakis,Alkiviadis F. Bais,Kalliopi Kotsa +13 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors investigated differences in calcium metabolism and anthropometric profiles according to neonatal vitamin D status at birth, in a sunny region of Northern Greece, in order to identify maternal parameters as risk factors for developing neonatal hypovitaminosis D at birth.
Journal ArticleDOI
Investigating the Role of Functional Polymorphism of Maternal and Neonatal Vitamin D Binding Protein in the Context of 25-Hydroxyvitamin D Cutoffs as Determinants of Maternal-Neonatal Vitamin D Status Profiles in a Sunny Mediterranean Region.
Spyridon N. Karras,Erdinç Dursun,Merve Alaylıoğlu,Duygu Gezen-Ak,Cédric Annweiler,Fatme Al Anouti,Hana Fakhoury,Alkiviadis F. Bais,Dimitrios N. Kiortsis +8 more
TL;DR: In this article, the combined effect of maternal and neonatal VDBP polymorphisms and different maternal 25-hydroxyvitamin D (25(OH)D) cut-offs on maternal and Neonatal vitamin D profile was evaluated.
Journal ArticleDOI
A rare case of a parathyroid adenoma inside a parathyroid cyst.
Spyridon N. Karras,Ioannis Koutelidakis,Panagiotis Anagnostis,Gesthimani Mintziori,Nikolaos Pontikides,Dimitrios G. Goulis +5 more
TL;DR: A case of functional parathyroid cysts is reported, describing its diagnostic and therapeutic approach and the need for further research into this area.
Journal ArticleDOI
Vitamin D supplements and bone mineral density
Spyridon N. Karras,Panagiotis Anagnostis,Olivier Beauchet,Dimitrios G. Goulis,Cédric Annweiler +4 more
TL;DR: There was no significant decrease in bone density at any site in older patients receiving vitamin D treatment, and the fact that there is no significant increase at measured sites, apart from the clinically important femoral neck, is not necessarily a negative finding.
