Journal ArticleDOI

Assessment of Clinical Diagnosis, Microscopy, Rapid Diagnostic Tests, and Polymerase Chain Reaction in the Diagnosis of Plasmodium Falciparum in Nigeria

TL;DR: Clinical diagnosis cannot be relied upon for accurate diagnosis of P. falciparum in endemic areas and PCR test performed best among the three methods followed by TFM and RDT in that order.
Journal ArticleDOI

Prevalence of Plasmodium falciparum Parasitaemia and Its Correlation with Haematological Parameters among HIV-Positive Individuals in Nigeria.

TL;DR: The mean haemoglobin concentration and packed cell volume (PCV) of HIV individuals with malaria parasitaemia were lower compared to those without malaria Parasitaemia but the difference was not statistically significant, and no significant difference was observed in malaria positivity in respect to sex and mean CD4+ cell count.
Journal ArticleDOI

Seroprevalence of hepatitis B and C and of human immunodeficiency virus among blood donors in south-west Nigeria.

TL;DR: Routine screening of blood donors for HBV and HIV is now carried out by most blood banks in Nigeria, but only a few centres routinely screen for HCV, and the level reported here is less than the 21.3% reported in Ibadan, which is in the same geographical zone.
Journal ArticleDOI

Iron deficiency anaemia associated with helminths and asymptomatic malaria infections among rural school children in Southwestern Nigeria

TL;DR: It is recommended that the public be adequately health educated on the epidemiology of intestinal helminth infection and a periodic mass treatment of school children with iron supplementation is advocated.
Journal ArticleDOI
