Clustering by Mixing Flows

TL;DR: The results prove that particles suspended in an incompressible random mixing flow can show pronounced clustering when the Stokes number is large and characterize two distinct clustering effects which occur in that limit.
Journal ArticleDOI

Unmixing in random flows

TL;DR: In this paper, the Lyapunov exponents for dense particles suspended in a random 3D flow were calculated for the regime of large Stokes number and the perturbation series was derived from a Pade-Borel summation.

Renormalization of Quasiperiodic Mappings

Stellan Östlund, +1 more
- 01 Jan 1985 -
TL;DR: In this article, the connection between renormalization of dynamical systems with two frequencies and the discrete 1-D Schroedinger equation with an incommensurate modulation was explored by constructing a renormalisation group formulation of both problems using a binary "Farey" address to label the incomencability.
Journal ArticleDOI

Renormalization of mappings of the two-torus.

TL;DR: It is shown how a generalization of continued fractions can be used to develop a renormalization-group formalism to study the behavior of maps of the two-torus, which may mimic the universal behavior of dynamical systems with three mutually incommensurate frequencies.
