Aspects of the present invention relate to a compact optics module for a head mounted display including a DLP image source comprising a polarized light source providing illumination light, a flat reflective polarizer to reflect the illumination light toward the DLP image source and transmit image light, wherein the illumination light is provided at an angle to the DLP, a quarter wave retarder to change the polarization state of the illumination light as it is reflected by the DLP image source thereby providing image light, at least one light trap to absorb a portion of off-state image light, a lens element to provide a viewable field of view of on-state image light in an image displayed by the DLP image source, and a combiner to reflect the on-state image light toward a user's eye and provide a see-through view of a surrounding environment.

A see-through, head mounted display and sensing devices cooperating to provide feedback on food items detected in the device field of view. Feedback can include warnings based on personal wearer needs, general nutrition information, food consumption tracking and social interactions. The system includes one or more processing devices in communication with display and the sensors which identify food items proximate to the apparatus, determine feedback information relevant to a wearer of the apparatus; and render feedback information in the display.

Wearable food nutrition feedback system

A consumer user can perform a number of augmented reality shopping operations using a local client shopping application executable on a mobile device. Features related to implementations of the current subject matter can include, but are not limited to, the ability to view an augmented reality depiction of a shopping display using the mobile device and to execute various “e-commerce” functions accessible via the augmented reality depiction. Augmented-reality shopping using a networked mobile device

A method for enhancing detection of a user's hand relative to a head-mounted display (HMD) is described. The method includes sensing a disrupted portion of energy by sensors integrated within a pad device. The disrupted portion of the energy is generated when the hand of the user interferes with the energy. The plurality of sensors that sense the disrupted portion of the energy produce an energy image that mirrors a current position of the hand. The method includes repeating the sensing continuously to produce a stream of energy images. The method includes communicating the stream of energy images to a game console for processing each of the energy images to produce a model of the hand and movement of the model of the hand. The model of the hand is at least partially rendered as a virtual hand in a virtual environment that is displayed in the HMD.

Gaming device with volumetric sensing

Methods for providing real-time feedback to an end user of a mobile device as they are interacting with or manipulating one or more virtual objects within an augmented reality environment are described. The real-time feedback may comprise visual feedback, audio feedback, and/or haptic feedback. In some embodiments, a mobile device, such as a head-mounted display device (HMD), may determine an object classification associated with a virtual object within an augmented reality environment, detect an object manipulation gesture performed by an end user of the mobile device, detect an interaction with the virtual object based on the object manipulation gesture, determine a magnitude of a virtual force associated with the interaction, and provide real-time feedback to the end user of the mobile device based on the interaction, the magnitude of the virtual force applied to the virtual object, and the object classification associated with the virtual object.

Holographic object feedback

A system provides a recommendation of food items to a user based on nutritional preferences of the user, using a head-mounted display device (HMDD) worn by the user. In a store, a forward-facing camera of the HMDD captures an image of a food item. The food item can be identified by the image, such as based on packaging of the food item. Nutritional parameters of the food item are compared to nutritional preferences of the user to determine whether the food item is recommended. The HMDD displays an augmented reality image to the user indicating whether the food item is recommended. If the food item is not recommended, a substitute food item can be identified. The nutritional preferences can indicate food allergies, preferences for low calorie foods and so forth. In a restaurant, the HMDD can recommend menu selections for a user.

Personal audio/visual system providing allergy awareness

Assisted viewing of web-based resources by an end user of a head-mounted display device (HMD) is described. An HMD may display content from web-based resources using a see-through display while tracking eye and head movement of the end user viewing the content within an augmented reality environment. Active view regions within the see-through display are identified based on tracking information including eye gaze data and head direction data. The web-based resources are analyzed to identify content and display elements. The analysis is correlated with the active view regions to identify the underlying content that is a desired point of focus of a corresponding active view region, as well as to identify the display elements corresponding to that content. A web-based resource is modified based on the correlation. The content from the web-based resource is displayed based on the modifications to assist the end user in viewing the web-based resource.
