Journal ArticleDOI
The alkaloid profiles of Sophora nuttalliana and Sophora stenophylla
Stephen T. Lee,Daniel Cook,Russell J. Molyneux,Clairton Marcolongo-Pereira,Clinton A. Stonecipher,Dale R. Gardner +5 more
TL;DR: The quinolizidine alkaloid composition of these two species was investigated throughout their geographical distribution using field collections and herbarium specimens to find that neither species contains the neurotoxin swainsonine as implied by the common name “white loco” for S. nuttalliana.
Journal ArticleDOI
Plant Secondary Metabolites in Alfalfa, Birdsfoot Trefoil, Reed Canarygrass, and Tall Fescue Unaffected by Two Different Nitrogen Sources
Andrea K. Clemensen,Fredrick D. Provenza,Stephen T. Lee,Dale R. Gardner,George E. Rottinghaus,Juan J. Villalba +5 more
TL;DR: The results reveal the variability in PSM production by plants and highlight the complexities of predicting fluctuations of PSM in forages.
Journal ArticleDOI
The effect of ensiling and haymaking on the concentrations of steroidal saponin in two Brachiaria grass species.
Flávia Gontijo de Lima,Stephen T. Lee,James A. Pfister,Eliane Sayuri Miyagi,Gustavo Lage Costa,Roberta Dias da Silva,Maria Clorinda Soares Fioravanti +6 more
TL;DR: Results suggest that livestock consuming Brachiaria either as silage or hay may have reduced risk of intoxication by protodioscin, and may be responsible for liver injury and subsequent photosensitization.
Book ChapterDOI
Selected Poisonous Plants Affecting Animal and Human Health
Bryan L. Stegelmeier,Reuel Field,Kip E. Panter,Jeffery O. Hall,Kevin D. Welch,James A. Pfister,Dale R. Gardner,Stephen T. Lee,Steve Colegate,T. Zane Davis,Benjamin T. Green,Daniel Cook +11 more
TL;DR: The objectives of this chapter are to introduce some common toxic plants and describe some of the pathologic changes relating to their poisoning in animals and humans, with a focus on livestock intoxication.
