Journal ArticleDOI
Different strategies for pharmacological thromboprophylaxis for lower-limb immobilisation after injury: systematic review and economic evaluation.
Abdullah Pandor,Daniel Horner,Sarah Davis,Steve Goodacre,John Stevens,Mark Clowes,Beverley J Hunt,Tim Nokes,Jonathan Keenan,Kerstin de Wit +9 more
TL;DR: To determine the clinical effectiveness and cost-effectiveness of different strategies for providing thromboprophylaxis to people with lower-limb immobilisation caused by injury and to identify priorities for future research, systematic reviews were undertaken.
Journal ArticleDOI
Bypassing nearest hospital for more distant neuroscience care in head-injured adults with suspected traumatic brain injury: findings of the head injury transportation straight to neurosurgery (HITS-NS) pilot cluster randomised trial
Fiona Lecky,Wanda Russell,Graham McClelland,Elspeth Pennington,Gordon Fuller,Gordon Fuller,Steve Goodacre,Steve Goodacre,Kyee Han,Andrew Curran,Damian Holliman,Nathan Chapman,Nathan Chapman,Jennifer Freeman,Jennifer Freeman,Sonia Byers,Suzanne Mason,Suzanne Mason,Hugh Potter,Timothy J Coats,Kevin Mackway-Jones,Mary Peters,Jane Shewan +22 more
TL;DR: A measurable effect from a full trial of early neuroscience care following bypass is unlikely, as bypassing patients with suspected TBI to SNCs gives an overtriage (false positive) ratio of 13:1 for neurosurgical intervention and 4: 1 for TBI.
Journal ArticleDOI
The acceptability and feasibility of an anxiety reduction intervention for emergency department patients with non-cardiac chest pain
TL;DR: This study sought to examine the acceptability and relevance of an evidence-based self-help intervention for ED patients with persistent NCCP and anxiety and found that both patients and nurses reported that the intervention was relevant, acceptable, and potentially useful.
Journal ArticleDOI
Emergency management in health: key issues and challenges in the UK
TL;DR: The evidence-base and evidence requirements for emergency planning in the UK health context is examined and social and behavioural knowledge gaps were highlighted with regards to how individuals and organisations deal with risk and behave in emergencies.
Journal ArticleDOI
The PAndemic INfluenza Triage in the Emergency Department (PAINTED) pilot cohort study.
TL;DR: A standardised clinical assessment form is acceptable to clinicians and could be used to collect research data in an influenza pandemic, but analysis may be limited by missing data.
