A generalized steady-state analysis of resonant converters using a two-port model and Fourier-series approach is presented. Analysis is presented for both voltage-source (VS) and current-source (CS)-type loads. Analysis can also be used either for variable-frequency (half- or full-bridge) or fixed-frequency (phase-shift control for full-bridge) operation. Steady-state solutions have been obtained. Particular cases are considered to show the method of application in analyzing different schemes. A simple design procedure is given for two particular cases to illustrate the use of analysis in obtaining design curves and in designing the converters. Experimental results obtained from a MOSFET-based 500-W fixed-frequency LCL-type resonant converter are presented to verify the analysis.

A three-phase DC-to-DC series-parallel resonant converter is proposed and its operating modes for a 180/spl deg/ wide gating pulse scheme are explained. A detailed analysis of the converter using a constant current model and the Fourier series approach is presented. Based on the analysis, design curves are obtained and a design example of a 1-kW converter is given. SPICE simulation results for the designed converter and experimental results for a 500-W converter are presented to verify the performance of the proposed converter for varying load conditions. The converter operates in lagging power factor (PF) mode for the entire load range and requires a narrow variation in switching frequency, to adequately regulate the output power.

A three-phase series-parallel resonant converter-analysis, design, simulation, and experimental results

The steady-state analysis of the series resonant converter with a capacitive output filter is studied using a frequency-domain model. The expressions for the resonant current and the capacitor voltage are derived. The converter shows multiple continuous conduction mode with continuous gate/base drive pulses. The performance characteristics relating to output voltage, output current, switching frequency, and feedback diode conduction angle are given. The input power, output power, and efficiency of the series resonant converter with finite quality factor are included. Some guidelines in the selection of component values and their ratings are given with an illustrative example. >

Analysis of the series resonant converter using a frequency domain model

A new resonant DC/DC converter topology which operates at a constant frequency and exhibits near zero switching losses is presented. The resonant circuit employed in the converter consists of a series branch and a parallel branch. The components of the series branch are tuned at the operating frequency of the converter. The components of the parallel branch are, however, tuned at a frequency much higher than the operating frequency of the converter. Four capacitors are placed across the switches of the full-bridge. The proposed resonant components shapes the current and voltage waveforms in the converter circuit in such a way that near zero turn-on, turn-off, and snubber losses are obtained while maintaining low voltage stresses across the inverter switches and rectifier diodes. A constant frequency resonant DC/DC converter with zero switching losses

The steady-state analysis of the series resonant converter is presented using a novel frequency-domain model. Closed-form expressions are derived for the infinite Fourier series. The effects of load resistance, nonzero resistance of the inductor coil, and transistor and diode voltage drops are considered. The output current and voltage characteristics are plotted using the transistor conduction angle as the parameter. The operating point is easily obtained by superimposing on these characteristics a shifted load line that accounts for transistor and diode voltage drops. An example illustrating the solving procedures using the graphical and Newton-Raphson (N-R) methods is included. >

Various circuit variables are determined by simple expressions for both the frequency and the phase control techniques, simplifying the steady-state analysis.
