Evaluation of Performance of Existing RO Drinking Water Stations in the North Central Province, Sri Lanka.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors examined RO drinking water stations established by community-based organizations (CBO) in the North Central Province (NCP) and found that the majority (>93%) of RO systems had higher salt rejection rates (>92%), while water recovery varied from 19.4% to 64%.
Journal ArticleDOI

Groundwater-Based Drinking Water Supply in Sri Lanka: Status and Perspectives

TL;DR: In this paper , the current status, challenges and opportunities of groundwater quality management and improvement in Sri Lanka were reviewed and discussed, based on previous studies, in order to achieve the 6th goal of United Nations (UN) Sustainable Development Goals (SDG), more efforts are being undertaken to secure drinking water quality.
Journal ArticleDOI

Probing fouling mechanism of anion exchange membranes used in electrodialysis self-reversible treatment by humic acid and calcium ions

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors examined the AEM fouling by Ca2+ and humic acid (HA) using synthetic groundwater using vibrational spectroscopy and found that both inter-and intramolecular interactions, including hydrophobic cationπ interactions among HA-Ca2+ complexes, were active in membrane fouling.
Journal ArticleDOI

A comparative study of community reverse osmosis and nanofiltration systems for total hardness removal in groundwater

TL;DR: In this article , the efficiency of reverse osmosis (RO) and nanofiltration (NF) treatment methods installed in the dry zone (Sri Lanka) were examined as a function of operation parameters, feed and product water quality, membrane type, user maintenance, and wastes handling.
Journal ArticleDOI

Fluorescence characteristics and source analysis of DOM in groundwater during the wet season in the CKDu zone of North Central Province, Sri Lanka.

TL;DR: In this article , the structure, composition, source and spatial distribution of dissolved organic matter (DOM) of two kinds of groundwater samples collected from dug well and tube well in the North Central Province (NCP) during the wet season were determined, compared and analyzed by analytical tools such as parallel factor analysis (PARAFAC).
