Brazilian and Mexican Experiences in the Study of Incipient Domestication

TL;DR: This review aimed at discussing concepts, hypotheses, and current trends in studies of domestication of plants, using examples of cases studied in regions of Mesoamerica and Brazil to unify research methods for analyzing a high diversity of processes.
Journal ArticleDOI

Seed germination of wild, in situ-managed, and cultivated populations of columnar cacti in the Tehuacán-Cuicatlán Valley, Mexico

TL;DR: Compared among wild, in situ-managed, and cultivated populations of the columnar cacti Stenocereus pruinosus, Polaskia chichipe, Myrtillocactus schenckii, andPolaskia chende, it is hypothesized that seeds from cultivated populations have higher water requirements to germinate than seeds of other populations, and that such difference is stronger in species more intensely managed.
Journal ArticleDOI

Germination differentiation patterns of wild and domesticated columnar cacti in a gradient of artificial selection intensity

TL;DR: The results suggest that artificial selection for larger fruits and heavier seeds in plants established in wetter environments have affected germination patterns, which are more pronounced according to management and artificial selection intensity.

Manejo tradicional de biodiversidad y ecosistemas en Mesoamérica: el Valle de Tehuacán

TL;DR: In this paper, a panorama of socio-ecologic studies about manejo tradicional of recursos vegetales and ecosistemas in distintas regiones of Mexico, with especial enfasis in the region del Valle de Tehuacan, en Puebla and Oaxaca, was presented.
Book ChapterDOI

Evolutionary Ethnobotanical Studies of Incipient Domestication of Plants in Mesoamerica

TL;DR: This chapter summarizes ethnobotanical, ecological, and evolutionary information documented in different regions of Mexico, combining different research approaches in order to understand the human motives for managing plant resources, and the ecological and evolutionary consequences of management of plants and ecosystems.
