TL;DR: A biomass recovery map of Latin America is presented, which illustrates geographical and climatic variation in carbon sequestration potential during forest regrowth and will support policies to minimize forest loss in areas where biomass resilience is naturally low and promote forest regeneration and restoration in humid tropical lowland areas with high biomass resilience.
Journal ArticleDOI
Are functional traits good predictors of demographic rates? evidence from five neotropical forests
Lourens Poorter,S. J. Wright,Horacio Paz,David D. Ackerly,Richard Condit,Guillermo Ibarra-Manríquez,Kyle E. Harms,Kyle E. Harms,Juan Carlos Licona,Miguel Martínez-Ramos,Susan J. Mazer,Helene C. Muller-Landau,Marielos Peña-Claros,Campbell O. Webb,Ian J. Wright +14 more
TL;DR: The consistency of these results strongly suggests that tropical rain forest species face similar trade-offs in different sites and converge on similar sets of solutions.
Journal ArticleDOI
Beyond Reserves: A Research Agenda for Conserving Biodiversity in Human‐modified Tropical Landscapes
Robin L. Chazdon,Celia A. Harvey,Oliver Komar,Daniel M. Griffith,Bruce G. Ferguson,Miguel Martínez-Ramos,Helda Morales,Ronald Nigh,Lorena Soto-Pinto,Michiel van Breugel,Stacy M. Philpott +10 more
TL;DR: In this article, the authors present an integrated landscape approach to promote research in human-modified landscapes that includes the effects of landscape structure and dynamics on conservation of biodiversity, provision of ecosystem services, and sustainability of rural livelihoods.
Journal ArticleDOI
Rates of change in tree communities of secondary Neotropical forests following major disturbances
Robin L. Chazdon,Susan G. Letcher,Michiel van Breugel,Michiel van Breugel,Miguel Martínez-Ramos,Frans Bongers,Bryan Finegan +6 more
TL;DR: Stem turnover rates were poor predictors of species turnover rates, particularly at longer time-intervals, and dynamic changes in basal area within stands, on the other hand, generally followed chronosequence trends.
Journal ArticleDOI
Integrating Agricultural Landscapes with Biodiversity Conservation in the Mesoamerican Hotspot
Celia A. Harvey,Oliver Komar,Robin L. Chazdon,Bruce G. Ferguson,Bryan Finegan,Daniel M. Griffith,Miguel Martínez-Ramos,Helda Morales,Ronald Nigh,Lorena Soto-Pinto,Michiel van Breugel,Mark H. Wishnie +11 more
TL;DR: This paper aims to demonstrate the efforts towards in-situ applicability of Ecosistemas Superiores, as well as provide a quantitative assessment of the efforts made towards this goal in the context of Nicaragua.
