Time and Time Again: Reports from a Boundary of the Universe

In the article, the authors consider and solve the issues of developing the skills of self-educational activity of students by including the use of media resources in the educational process, and in particular in the process of learning a foreign language, the relationship of such concepts as skills of self-education and the level of formation of media competence is also noted. The authors concretize the concepts of self-educational activity and media competence of students. To determine the level of development of self-educational skills of students and the level of formation of media competence, methods such as polling and questioning, developed by the authors of this article, were used. To assess the reliability of the study results, the Friedman χ2r criterion was used. The study was conducted in the period 2019-2020 and included sixty students at the Institute of Social Engineering and the Engineering and Economic Institute of the Siberian State University of Science and Technology named after M. F. Reshetnev.

Using media resources to develop students’ skills in self-educational activities

The article describes the specifics of the implementation of cultural policy in ethnic administrative territorial units, and in places of compact residence of indigenous minorities of the Russian North, Siberia, and the Far East. This topic is highly relevant because the analysis of actual implementation of cultural politics has shown that not enough attention is being paid to the ethno-cultural aspects. Existing cultural policy is characterized by an internal contradiction: on the one hand, it facilitates integration of ethnic minorities into the common Russian and global cultural space; on the other, it has to deal with the desire of the minorities themselves to preserve their ethnocultural identity.

Practical Aspects of Cultural Policy in Ethnic Administrative Territorial Units

The article presents the results of a pilot study of economic attitudes of young people — representatives of indigenous peoples of the Arctic zone (hereinafter — youth). The authors of the article used a multivariate questionnaire developed by O. S. Deineka and E. V. Zabelina as the main methodological tool to carry out the express diagnostics of economic attitudes. As a result, the article presents the structure of economic attitudes of youth. In addition, using a factor analysis, the authors found four fundamental factors that should be considered as types of economic consciousness, but only one of them is financially confident and literate. The other three types are experiencing difficulties with knowledge in the field of economics, which can lead to dissatisfaction and disappointment of young people in this field in the future. In conclusion, there are general conclusions and trends characterizing the tendency of young people from the indigenous peoples of the Arctic zone to passive, safe, and non-risky financial strategies

The Structure of Economic Attitudes of the Youth — Representatives of the Indigenous Small-Numbered Peoples of the Arctic Zone of the Russian Federation: Results of a Pilot Study

Continuing education is one of the dominant educational trends, and therefore, the readiness for self-study becomes a universal discipline, necessary for the successful self-realization and professional development of the individual. According to global educational trends, there is a growing demand for self-study. In this regard, the question of which factors affect the willingness of students to implement it is extremely relevant. The role of the time perspective of the individual in the preparation of readiness for self-study activities is not clear. The study was conducted using a sample of students from regional Russian and Japanese universities. The results of the study: students from Russia and Japan demonstrate the same readiness for self-study. This fact is confirmed by the results of the comparison, using the nonparametric test, and the analysis of contingency tables. There were differences in the indicators of the time perspective of students, and the differences were specific in each sample. The results of the study confirm the hypothesis of the connection between the time perspective and readiness for selfstudy and describe the problem of the relationship between the level and severity of readiness, for self-study activities within the time perspective of each individual. The results allow the authors to design psychological and pedagogical conditions, which ensure the independence and confidence of students in their futures. The study contributes to the understanding of the factors influencing the formation of readiness for self-education. The results are discussed in the framework of the concept of self-educational activities in the global educational space.

Readiness for Self-study and a Temporary Perspective: Results of Cross-cultural Research of Youth in Russia and Japan

The article presents the results of a study of life values and their relationship with the subjective well-being of indigenous small-numbered peoples based on the example of the Nenets. The relevance of this study is due to the fact that globalization transformations determine the change in human living conditions in the Arctic zone. This process often takes place painfully: representatives of indigenous small-numbered minorities cannot find their place in the new economic and multicultural system, which leads to the loss of vital meanings and subjective ill-being. The article notes that the solution to this problem may be to take into account life values during the transformation of the economic behaviour of the indigenous small-numbered peoples of the Russian Arctic. The materials presented in the article demonstrate a strong relationship between the level of satisfaction with life and the subjective level of income (subjective economic wellbeing). The most important life values for the Nenets (security, kindness, independence) turned out to be connected both with the level of satisfaction with life in general and with the level of subjective economic well-being. In conclusion, it is noted that the results obtained make it possible to formulate recommendations for various entities on the effective transformation of the economic behaviour of the indigenous small-numbered peoples of the Russian Arctic, in particular the creation of conditions for stability, social security, community and collectivism, as well as the ability to independently make economic decisions

Life Values and Subjective Well-being of the Indigenous Small-Numbered Peoples of the Arctic Zone (Based on the Example of the Nenets)

In the paper the results of the comparative research of the attitudes towards past, present and future at students and international migrants are provided. This study has revealed a number of important trends in attitudes towards the time of Russian-speaking migrants residing in the UK. The main significance of the research is that it comprehensively studied time attitudes of the individual in migrants (integrating memory, mentality, nonverbal associations, language) in comparison with the indigenous inhabitants. It was shown that sweet nostalgia for the past events gives energy and strength for new tasks, the activity and importance of the present events create the impression of a rapid change of events and life intensity. Moreover, migrants look to the future with more hope and optimism than non-migrants do. They set goals, persistently follow them and expect rewards from the future. On this path they are ready to sacrifice today’s pleasures for the sake of future achievements. A positive attitude towards time (not only to the past, but also to the present and the future) can act as a coping mechanism for migrants, both for individuals and for a group. In general, time for people living outside the home country can be considered as a valuable resource, not so much related to material but to spiritual values (impressions, emotions, attitudes, etc.).
