TL;DR: In this article, the photodegradation of poly(p -methoxystyrene) with 254 nm radiation under high vacuum at 25°C has been studied, and a reasonable correlation between these and the electron donating character of the para group is observed, explainable in terms of the stabilising effect of such groups on the radicals formed during chain scission.
