Abstract: This paper aims to explore the relationship between human resource management practices, breach of psychological contract and employee turnover intentions among hotel frontline employees, considering the scant research attention to frontline employee’s perspectives in Indian hospitality industry.,A survey design was used to collect responses from 294 frontline employees (front-office and food and beverage services). Multiple regression analyses have been used to test the hypothesized relationships.,Selection, training and compensation practices were found to influence employee’s turnover intentions. In addition, psychological contract breach was found to enhance employee’s turnover intentions, despite the implementation of effective human resource management practices.,This study examines the role of psychological contract breach as a moderator in the relationship between human resource management practices and turnover intentions in a highly labour-intensive context, the hospitality industry.

Abstract: Policing has been contended as one of the most stressful occupations around the globe. With increasing police suicide cases and an upsurge in misconduct toward civilians by the police in India, a study on police stress and burnout was necessitated. The present study aimed at identifying the antecedents of burnout among police personnel. It further investigated the role of work support as a protective factor moderating the stressor and burnout relationship. A survey was conducted in the capital state of India. A total of 491 police personnel at inspector and sub-inspector rank from 128 police stations participated in this study. Multiple and hierarchical regression analyses were performed to examine the antecedents of burnout and to assess the buffering role of work support. The findings of the study revealed that among the several stressors, organizational and work–home interface positively significantly contributed to the development of burnout. The evidence for work support as a moderator was also observed. The findings of this study offer several practical implications to combat police stress and burnout. This study contributes to the growing literature on police burnout in the Indian context and highlights the role of work support in the policing context.

Abstract: Cognitive structures are the basic mental pattern people use to process any information. Metaphorical thinking being one of the mental tool present innate in human beings which when practiced consciously could help developing cognitive structures in turn help to process information. According to Jean Piaget and William Perry learning is facilitated by the mechanism comprising symbolic representations of the mental processes that is actively constructed by the learners based on the existing cognitive structures. Therefore, teaching/learning process should focus on the development of existing intellectual framework. Unlike the behaviourist approach, knowledge is acquired by the learner through intentional mental representations derived from past learning experiences. Teacher’s role is to facilitate the learners with resources to build new knowledge to old and to modify the old to accommodate the new. The present paper focuses on how cognitive structures help in processing information by implementing metaphorical thinking statements in teaching/leaning process.

Abstract: A sample of 305 employees comprising nearly equal numbers from the manufacturing sector and from the information technology (IT) sector in India was assessed in terms of: 1) attributes of the individual employees (practical intelligence and creative behaviour); 2) processes (participation in making decisions and the quality of communication); 3) contextual factors (trust in management and history of change), to predict the readiness of the employees for change. The predictors of employee readiness for change differed between the two sectors, and the factor most closely related to the readiness was prior experience of organisational changes.

Abstract: While there are several standard scales in use for measuring various dimensions of human resource management, research is very limited in terms of scale development for variables that form part of the People Capability Maturity Model (PCMM) for organizational maturity. This study covers a perception measurement scale for people governance variables and organizational maturity developed, validated with industry experts and statistically tested. The scale was developed with 113 items grouped into 11 variables covering governance, staffing, performance management, rewards, quality, training, organizational maturity and business outcomes around staff, firm and customer aspects. The reliability analysis was performed for each of the variables based on inputs from 521 respondents across the services industry. The respondents were experienced professionals in functional management and human resources. Detailed analyses of results provide high scores for the variables, indicating good consistency of items. Convergent and discriminant validity analyses were performed for evaluating validation of item dimensions within each of the variables. The overall results indicate that the newly developed scale is a reliable and validated one to measure variables around people, process and organizational maturity, for researchers particularly in the services industry. This fills in a missing gap in terms of a validated scale for measuring people management variables. Further research can be done to extend this scale to other industries and to look at a model fitment across the related variables.
