Highly birefringent index-guiding photonic crystal fibers

TL;DR: In this paper, the cutoff properties of birefringent photonic crystal fibers with respect to multimode behavior were analyzed theoretically and experimental results were presented in agreement with theoretical predictions.
Journal ArticleDOI

Gas sensing using air-guiding photonic bandgap fibers

TL;DR: Experimental studies of gas sensing using air-guiding photonic bandgap fibers using standard single mode fibers for ease of use and improved stability are reported on.
Proceedings ArticleDOI

Photonic crystal fibers

TL;DR: In this paper, a review of the different types and applications of photonic crystal fibers with particular emphasis on recent advances in the field is presented, with a focus on the photonic bandgap effect.
Proceedings Article

Photonic crystal fiber based evanescent-wave sensor for detection of biomolecules in aqueous solutions

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors demonstrate evanescent-wave sensing of Cy5-DNA-molecules in an aqueous solution using a photonic crystal fiber and demonstrate that less than 0.8µL sample volume placed in the holes of the fiber is sufficient for reliable detection.
Journal ArticleDOI

Photonic crystal fiber based evanescent-wave sensor for detection of biomolecules in aqueous solutions

TL;DR: It is demonstrated that highly efficient evanescent-wave detection of fluorophore-labeled biomolecules in aqueous solutions positioned in the air holes of the microstructured part of a photonic crystal fiber even at wavelengths in the visible range is demonstrated.
