Gene expression patterns of breast carcinomas distinguish tumor subclasses with clinical implications

TL;DR: Survival analyses on a subcohort of patients with locally advanced breast cancer uniformly treated in a prospective study showed significantly different outcomes for the patients belonging to the various groups, including a poor prognosis for the basal-like subtype and a significant difference in outcome for the two estrogen receptor-positive groups.

Improved measurement of androgen receptors in human breast cancer.

TL;DR: Androgen receptor levels were strongly correlated to estrogen and progesterone receptor concentration in both primary and secondary cancers, supporting the view that some of the beneficial effects of high dose progestin treatment of advanced breast cancer are mediated through the androgen receptor.

Premorbid body weight and its relations to primary tumour diameter in breast cancer patients; its dependence on estrogen and progesteron receptor status.

TL;DR: Both body weight and Quetelet's index were significantly related to tumour diameter in older patients with hormone receptor negative tumours, and body size was positively related to hormone receptor status and to diameter of the primary tumour.

Oestradiol treatment increases the sensitivity of MCF-7 cells for the growth stimulatory effect of IGF-I.

TL;DR: It is concluded that growth stimulation of MCF-7 cells by long term treatment with oestradiol may be mediated through autocrine secretion of IGF-I, and the effect of short term stimulation of thymidine incorporation suggest that the growth response of ostradiol is more complex, and indicate that a cooperative interaction with IGF- I is involved, which is unrelated to stimulated Autocrine secretion.

Concentration of endogenous oestradiol as related to oestradiol receptor sites in breast tumor cytosol

TL;DR: No significant difference in cytosol oestradiol concentration was found in receptor-positive and negative pre- and postmenopausal women, which would indicate that factors other than plasma levels influence tissue availability of ostradiol.
