TL;DR: A retrospective study from a Hong Kong hospital found that most of the 227 patients with laboratory-confirmed SARS presented with fever, chills, myalgia, pulmonary infiltrates, and lymphopenia; some had cough, shortness of breath, and rales; during hospitalization, half had diarrhea and one fourth required intensive care for respiratory failure.
Journal ArticleDOI
Coronavirus-positive Nasopharyngeal Aspirate as Predictor for Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Mortality
Owen Tak Yin Tsang,Tai Nin Chau,Kin Wing Choi,Eugene Yuk Keung Tso,Wilina Lim,Ming Chi Chiu,Wing Lok Tong,Po Oi Lee,Bosco Hoi-Shiu Lam,Tak Keung Ng,Jak Yiu Lai,Wai Cho Yu,Sik To Lai +12 more
TL;DR: By multivariate analysis, positive RT-PCR on nasopharyngeal aspirate samples was an independent predictor of death within 30 days of severe acute respiratory syndrome.
Journal ArticleDOI
Liver injury associated with the use of Fructus Psoraleae (Bol-gol-zhee or Bu-gu-zhi) and its related proprietary medicine.
W I Cheung,ML Tse,Teresa Ngan,Jieru Lin,Ws Ken Lee,Wing-Tat Poon,Tony Wl Mak,Vincent K S Leung,Tai Nin Chau +8 more

Journal ArticleDOI
Epidemiology and Clinical Features of Sporadic Hepatitis E as Compared with Hepatitis A
TL;DR: Hepatitis E is a more severe disease entity as compared with hepatitis A and significant proportion of them are imported cases from an endemic area.
Journal ArticleDOI
Conformational antigenic determinants generated by interactions between a bacterially expressed recombinant peptide of the hepatitis E virus structural protein
Ji-Zhong Zhang,Mun H. Ng,Ningshao Xia,S. H. Lau,X. Y. Che,Tai Nin Chau,Sik To Lai,Stanley W.K. Im +7 more
TL;DR: The dimeric form of the peptide elicited a vigorous antibody response in experimental animals and the resulting antisera were found to cross‐react against HEV, effecting an efficient immune capture of the virus.
