TL;DR: Transmission electron microscopy and X-ray absorption fine structure measurements revealed that the size of the Pd particles decreased with an increase in the specific surface area of ZrO2, suggesting that zero-valent small Pd clusters consisting of more than one Pd atom are the active species for the decarbonylation reaction.

Effect of aluminum on the deposition of silica scales in cooling water systems.
TL;DR: The formation of aluminum hydroxide particles smaller than 0.2 microm with positive charges, consisting of 6-coordinate aluminum, and their subsequent adsorption on the surface of the solid are the most important factors contributing to the formation of silica scales.
