Journal ArticleDOI
Ultrasound freeze casting: Fabricating bioinspired porous scaffolds through combining freeze casting and ultrasound directed self-assembly
TL;DR: In this paper, the Ultrasound Freeze Casting (UFC) was used to fabricate bioinspired materials that mimic the concentric rings of natural materials such as osteons and Liesegang rings.
Journal ArticleDOI
External Field Assisted Freeze Casting
Pooya Niksiar,Frances Y. Su,Michael B. Frank,Taylor A. Ogden,Steven E. Naleway,Marc A. Meyers,Joanna McKittrick,Michael M. Porter +7 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors review studies that apply external fields to create porous ceramics with different microstructural patterns, gradients, and anisotropic alignments, and the resulting materials possess distinct gradient, core-shell, ring, helical, or long-range alignment.
Journal ArticleDOI
Freeze‐Casting of Surface‐Magnetized Iron(II,III) Oxide Particles in a Uniform Static Magnetic Field Generated by a Helmholtz Coil
Isaac Nelson,Taylor A. Ogden,Shadi Al Khateeb,Jake Graser,Taylor D. Sparks,Jake J. Abbott,Steven E. Naleway +6 more
TL;DR: In this paper, a novel, Helmholtz coil-based freeze-caster is developed and it is shown that, during freeze-casting, the use of this Helmholz coil generates a more uniform magnetic field than permanent magnets.
