Volcanic-gas studies: Methods, results, and applications
Journal ArticleDOI
Volatile budget of Kilauea volcano
TL;DR: In this article, the volatile budget of the Kilauea volcano was calculated by using the S content of glasses and the volatile content of volcanic gas compositions of the volcano's magma from the past 27 years.
Journal ArticleDOI
Magmatic gas scrubbing: implications for volcano monitoring
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors model thermochemically the reaction of magmatic gases with water to better understand scrubbing and its implications for volcano monitoring, and suggest that CO2 is the main species to monitor when scrubbing exists; another candidate is H2S(g), but it can be affected by reactions with aqueous ferrous iron.
Journal ArticleDOI
Metal emissions from Kilauea, and a suggested revision of the estimated worldwide metal output by quiescent degassing of volcanoes
TL;DR: Nriagu et al. as discussed by the authors combined the Kilauea data with data of recent studies by others (emissions from volcanoes in the Indonesian arc; the large Laki eruption of two centuries ago; Etna; estimates of total volcanic emissions of sulfur) to form the basis for a new working estimate of the rate of worldwide injection of metals to the atmosphere by volcanoes.
Journal ArticleDOI
Exsolution of H2O, CO2, and S during eruptive episodes at Kilauea Volcano, Hawaii
TL;DR: A model for the exsolution of H2O, CO2, and S from Kilauea magma as it rises from a shallow crustal reservoir is presented in this paper.
