Journal ArticleDOI
Randomized clinical trial of pressure-controlled inverse ratio ventilation and extracorporeal CO2 removal for adult respiratory distress syndrome.
Alan H. Morris,C. J. Wallace,Ronald L. Menlove,Terry P. Clemmer,James F. Orme,Lindell K. Weaver,Nathan C. Dean,Frank Thomas,Thomas D. East,Nathan L. Pace,Mary R. Suchyta,E. Beck,M. Bombino,Dean F. Sittig,S. Bohm,B. Hoffmann,H. Becks,S. Butler,John E. Pearl,B Rasmusson +19 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors evaluated the impact of a new therapy that includes pressure-controlled inverse ratio ventilation followed by extracorporeal CO2 removal on the survival of patients with severe ARDS in a randomized controlled clinical trial.

Randomized clinical trial of pressure-controlled inverse ratio ventilation and extracorporeal CO2 removal for adult respiratory distress syndrome
Alan H. Morris,C. J. Wallace,R. L. Menlova,Terry P. Clemmer,James F. Orme,Lindell K. Weaver,Nathan C. Dean,Frank Thomas,Thomas D. East,Nathan L. Pace,Mary R. Suchyta,E. Beck,M. Bombino,Dean F. Sittig,S. Bohm,B. Hoffmann,H. Becks,S. Butler,John E. Pearl,B Rasmusson +19 more
TL;DR: It is concluded that there was no significant difference in survival between the mechanical ventilation and the extracorporeal CO2 removal groups, and extracordoreal support for ARDS should be restricted to controlled clinical trials.

Method and system for patient monitoring and respiratory assistance control through mechanical ventilation by the use of deterministic protocols
Terry P. Clemmer,Thomas D. East,Alan H. Morris,James F. Orme,George E. Thomsen,C. Jane Wallace,Lindell K. Weaver,Mary R. Suchyta +7 more
TL;DR: In this paper, a method and system for managing mechanical ventilation of patients with respiratory disorders is described, where the main objective of the system is to generate executable instructions for patient care which take into account a large number of parameters of patient condition and ventilation.
Journal ArticleDOI
A successful computerized protocol for clinical management of pressure control inverse ratio ventilation in ARDS patients.
Thomas D. East,Stephan H. Böhm,C. Jane Wallace,Terry P. Clemmer,Lindell K. Weaver,James F. Orme,Alan H. Morris +6 more
TL;DR: The success of this protocol has demonstrated the feasibility of using PEEPi as a primary control variable for oxygenation and should make the future use of PCIRV less mystifying, simpler, and more systematic.
Journal ArticleDOI
Computerized decision support for mechanical ventilation of trauma induced ARDS: results of a randomized clinical trial.
Bruce A. McKinley,Frederick A. Moore,R. Matthew Sailors,Christine S. Cocanour,Alicia Marquez,Roberta K. Wright,Alan S. Tonnesen,C. Jane Wallace,Alan H. Morris,Alan H. Morris,Thomas D. East,Thomas D. East +11 more
TL;DR: A computerized protocol for bedside decision support was successfully exported to a trauma center, and effectively standardized mechanical ventilatory support of trauma-induced acute respiratory distress syndrome without adverse effect on patient outcome.
