According to W. Edwards Deming, American companies require nothing less than a transformation of management style and of governmental relations with industry. In Out of the Crisis, originally published in 1982, Deming offers a theory of management based on his famous 14 Points for Management. Management's failure to plan for the future, he claims, brings about loss of market, which brings about loss of jobs. Management must be judged not only by the quarterly dividend, but by innovative plans to stay in business, protect investment, ensure future dividends, and provide more jobs through improved product and service. In simple, direct language, he explains the principles of management transformation and how to apply them.

Toyota production system : beyond large-scale production

Extant literature has increased our understanding of specific aspects of digital transformation, however we lack a comprehensive portrait of its nature and implications. Through a review of 282 works, we inductively build a framework of digital transformation articulated across eight building blocks. Our framework foregrounds digital transformation as a process where digital technologies create disruptions triggering strategic responses from organizations that seek to alter their value creation paths while managing the structural changes and organizational barriers that affect the positive and negative outcomes of this process. Building on this framework, we elaborate a research agenda that proposes [1] examining the role of dynamic capabilities, and [2] accounting for ethical issues as important avenues for future strategic IS research on digital transformation.

Understanding digital transformation: A review and a research agenda

Eine Grundlage fur systematisches Service Engineering ist das bedarfsgerechte und integrierte Management von Informationen uber die Leistungsangebote. Die Modular Service Engineering Solution (MoSES) bietet eine integrierte Informationsbasis fur Servicearchitekten, Produktentwickler und Vertriebsmitarbeiter. Dabei werden die Konzepte der Modularisierung von Dienstleistungen umgesetzt, um eine Wiederverwendung von Leistungen in unterschiedlichen Angeboten zu fordern. Vor allem handelt es sich dabei um das im Beitrag zur Modularisierung von Dienstleistungen vorgestellte Konzept der drei Ebenen des Service Engineering modularer Dienstleistungen: die Servicearchitektur, das Serviceprodukt und die Servicekonfiguration. Im Beitrag wird erlautert, wie die damit verbundenen Informationen uber die Struktur der Leistungsangebote, die Definition von Leistungsmerkmalen und Leistungsanforderungen umgesetzt werden. An einem Beispiel, dem Service Engineering einer IT-Dienstleistung, wird dargestellt, wie MoSES in der Unternehmenspraxis eingesetzt werden kann und dadurch das Service Engineering unterstutzt wird. Anschliesend werden die Architektur von MoSES sowie die grundlegenden Voruberlegungen zur technischen Implementierung erlautert. Der Beitrag schliest mit einem Ausblick, der neben der Werkzeugerweiterung auch zukunftige systemtechnische Erweiterungsmoglichkeiten aufzeigt.

With a growing customization, automation and standardisation of IT services a systematic management of data on IT services becomes a pressing issue for researchers and practitioners alike. We propose Service Data Management as a cross-functional data view on services and their delivery. To this end we develop a first draft of an ontological model of common concepts of IT services. For simple IT services, established standards from the world of physical products may be surprisingly useful in the domain of service management.
