According to W. Edwards Deming, American companies require nothing less than a transformation of management style and of governmental relations with industry. In Out of the Crisis, originally published in 1982, Deming offers a theory of management based on his famous 14 Points for Management. Management's failure to plan for the future, he claims, brings about loss of market, which brings about loss of jobs. Management must be judged not only by the quarterly dividend, but by innovative plans to stay in business, protect investment, ensure future dividends, and provide more jobs through improved product and service. In simple, direct language, he explains the principles of management transformation and how to apply them.

Toyota production system : beyond large-scale production

Extant literature has increased our understanding of specific aspects of digital transformation, however we lack a comprehensive portrait of its nature and implications. Through a review of 282 works, we inductively build a framework of digital transformation articulated across eight building blocks. Our framework foregrounds digital transformation as a process where digital technologies create disruptions triggering strategic responses from organizations that seek to alter their value creation paths while managing the structural changes and organizational barriers that affect the positive and negative outcomes of this process. Building on this framework, we elaborate a research agenda that proposes [1] examining the role of dynamic capabilities, and [2] accounting for ethical issues as important avenues for future strategic IS research on digital transformation.

Understanding digital transformation: A review and a research agenda

In recent years, the principle of modularity has been increasingly applied to services as service providers seek to reduce time and cost of delivering customized service offerings. Given the intangible nature of many services, the identification of all elements and interdependencies is more challenging compared to technical systems. Uncertainty or vagueness of system composition can lead to higher efforts in system analysis and limit the quality of design decisions derived from a modularization of a service architecture. Therefore, we propose an iterative approach for the application of the Multiple Domain Matrix method for the modularization of complex service systems. By performing a detailed analysis of the service system’s elements and interdependencies, we propose design principles that enhance the application of the Multiple Domain Matrix method to complex service systems in order to increase the information quality of the analysis. The design principles emphasize interdependent consistency checks and a structured dialogue between service system analysts and domain experts that refine the model of the service system underlying the modularization. We demonstrate our approach by an application to a complex service system for integrated health care service in mental health care.

Zu Dienstleistungen im IT-Bereich z?hlen insbesondere IT Consulting, System Integration, Outsourcing sowie Hardware Maintenance und Support.

Paketierung von IT-Dienstleistungen: Chancen, Erfolgsfaktoren, Umsetzungsformen

Vielfach erweist sich Aufbau und Ausgestaltung von ITServicekatalogen in der Praxis als schwierig, da konkrete Gestaltungshilfen zur Strukturierung des Leistungsangebots fehlen oder nur eingeschränkt anwendbar sind. In diesem Beitrag wird ein Ansatz vorgestellt, der zu einer durchgängigen und transparenten Strukturierung des IT-Leistungsangebots beiträgt und einen konkreten Gestaltungsvorschlag liefert. Hierzu wird neben der integrierten Betrachtung der zentralen Zielgruppen von IT-Servicekatalogen, eine Grundlage für eine einheitliche Dokumentation des Leistungsangebots geschaffen. Auf Basis zentraler Anforderungen an IT-Servicekataloge bildet die Darstellung und Begründung der herausgebildeten Strukturierungsebenen des Vorschlags und dessen Ausgestaltung den Schwerpunkt des Beitrags.

Hohere Flexibilitat und geringere Produktionskosten — dieser Herausforderung mussen sich neue Leistungsangebote wie On-Demand-Services im Markt fur IT-Dienstleistungen stellen. Die Hoffnung wird dabei auf neue Standardsvorhaben und technische Innovationen gelegt, mit denen die hohere Komplexitat dieser Dienstleistungen beherrscht werden soll. Die Erfahrungen des industriellen Komplexitatsmanagements zeigen aber, dass dieser Weg in eine Komplexitatsfalle fuhrt. Vor der Beherrschung der Komplexitat muss ihre Reduktion stehen. Daher untersuchen wir, wie sich Masnahmen zur Komplexitatsreduktion aus der industriellen Fertigung auf variantenreiche IT-Dienstleistungen ubertragen lassen. Dazu wird zunachst in das Komplexitatsmanagement eingefuhrt, dann die Leistungs- und Gestaltungselemente von IT-Dienstleistungen beschrieben und schlieslich die Anwendbarkeit von Masnahmen entlang eines Fallbeispiels uberpruft.

Although the lack of elaborate governance mechanisms is often seen as the main reason for failures of SOA projects, SOA governance is still very low in maturity. In this paper, we follow a design science approach to address this drawback by presenting a framework that can guide organisations in implementing a governance approach for SOA more successfully. We have reviewed the highly advanced IT governance frameworks Cobit and ITIL and mapped them to the SOA domain. The resulting blueprint for a SOA governance framework was refined based on a detailed literature review, expert interviews and a practical application in a government organisation. The proposed framework stresses the need for business representatives to get involved in SOA decisions and to define benefits ownership for services.
