Journal ArticleDOI
Expert consensus document on the measurement of aortic stiffness in daily practice using carotid-femoral pulse wave velocity.
Luc M. Van Bortel,Stéphane Laurent,Pierre Boutouyrie,Phil Chowienczyk,John Kennedy Cruickshank,Tine De Backer,Jan Filipovsky,Sofie Huybrechts,Francesco U.S. Mattace-Raso,Athanase D. Protogerou,Giuseppe Schillaci,Patrick Segers,Sebastian Vermeersch,Thomas Weber +13 more
TL;DR: This consensus document advises on the measurement procedures in general and provides arguments for the use of 80% of the direct carotid-femoral distance as the most accurate distance estimate.
Journal ArticleDOI
Influence of arterial blood pressure and aldosterone on left ventricular hypertrophy in moderate essential hypertension.
Daniel Duprez,F Bauwens,Marc De Buyzere,Tine De Backer,Jean Kaufman,José Van Hoecke,Alex Vermeulen,Denis Clement +7 more
TL;DR: It is demonstrated that ambulatory blood pressure determinations but not office blood pressure parameters correlate well with left ventricular hypertrophy in essential hypertension.
Journal ArticleDOI
Dysautonomia and its underlying mechanisms in the hypermobility type of Ehlers-Danlos syndrome.
Inge De Wandele,Lies Rombaut,Luc Leybaert,Philippe van de Borne,Tine De Backer,Fransiska Malfait,Anne De Paepe,Patrick Calders +7 more
TL;DR: Dysautonomia consisting of cardiovascular and sudomotor dysfunction is present in EDS-HT and Neuropathy, connective tissue laxity, and vasoactive medication probably play a role in its development.
Journal ArticleDOI
Carotid to femoral pulse wave velocity: a comparison of real travelled aortic path lengths determined by MRI and superficial measurements.
Sofie Huybrechts,D. Devos,Sebastian Vermeersch,Dries Mahieu,Eric Achten,Tine De Backer,Patrick Segers,Luc M. Van Bortel +7 more
TL;DR: The tape measure distance from carotid to femoral artery, multiplied by 0.8, corresponds best with the real travelled aortic path length, which is moderately (yet statistically significantly) influenced by age and minimally by BMI.
