Journal ArticleDOI
Association of work-related accidents with noise exposure in the workplace and noise-induced hearing loss based on the experience of some 240,000 person-years of observation.
TL;DR: Results show an association between accident risk and worker's hearing sensitivity, and 12.2% of accidents considered in this study were attributable to a combination of noise exposure in the workplace and noise-induced hearing loss.
Journal ArticleDOI
ICBEN review of research on the biological effects of noise 2011-2014.
Mathias Basner,Mark Brink,Abigail L. Bristow,Yvonne de Kluizenaar,Lawrence S. Finegold,Jiyoung Hong,S.A. Janssen,Ronny Klaeboe,Tony Leroux,Andreas Liebl,Toshihito Matsui,Dieter Schwela,Mariola Sliwinska-Kowalska,Patrik Sörqvist +13 more
TL;DR: It is demonstrated that noise is a prevalent and often underestimated threat for both auditory and nonauditory health and that strategies for the prevention of noise and its associated negative health consequences are needed to promote public health.
Journal ArticleDOI
Personal and situational variables associated with wind turbine noise annoyance.
David S. Michaud,Stephen E. Keith,Katya Feder,Sonia A. Voicescu,Leonora Marro,John Than,Mireille Guay,Tara Bower,Allison Denning,Eric Lavigne,Chantal Whelan,S.A. Janssen,Tony Leroux,Frits van den Berg +13 more
TL;DR: The analysis suggests that communities are between 11 and 26 dB less tolerant ofWTN than of other transportation noise sources, and the role of community tolerance level as a complement and/or an alternative to multiple regression in predicting the prevalence of WTN annoyance is provided.
Journal ArticleDOI
Prevalence of Hazardous Occupational Noise Exposure, Hearing Loss, and Hearing Protection Usage Among a Representative Sample of Working Canadians
Katya Feder,David S. Michaud,James P. McNamee,Elizabeth M. Fitzpatrick,Hugh W. Davies,Tony Leroux +5 more
TL;DR: Findings are consistent with other industrialized countries, underscoring the need for ongoing awareness of noise-induced occupational HL.
Journal ArticleDOI
Multiple work-related accidents: tracing the role of hearing status and noise exposure
Serge André Girard,Michel Picard,Adrian C. Davis,Marc Simard,Richard Larocque,Tony Leroux,Fernand Turcotte +6 more
TL;DR: It is suggested that reducing noise exposure contributes to increased safety in noisy industries and prevents hearing loss, and hearing-impaired workers assigned to noisy workstations should be provided with assistive listening devices and efficient communication strategies should be implemented.
