Journal ArticleDOI

Size of the detector in confocal imaging systems.

Tony Wilson, +1 more
- 01 Apr 1987 -
TL;DR: A criterion for detector size to give true confocal operation is introduced and it is shown that the lateral resolution is considerably more sensitive to detector size than is the depth-discrimination or optical-sectioning property.
Journal ArticleDOI

Surface profile measurement using the confocal microscope

TL;DR: In this article, a novel high-resolution non-contacting optical method of surface profile measurement is described and typical results are presented, which utilizes the depth discrimination properties of the non-focal scanning optical microscope.

Microscopy imaging apparatus and method

TL;DR: In this article, at least three images are recorded at different spatial phases of the pattern by means of a microscope of shallow focal depth, and a three-dimensional image containing only in-focus detail is then derived from the recorded images by image processing which removes the periodic pattern.

Confocal microscopy apparatus and method

TL;DR: The confocal microscope has two matched light sources: a first light source and a second light source as discussed by the authors, which are arranged to illuminate opposite sides of a modulating mask, and the light either reflecting from or passing through the mask is then used to illuminate an object supported on a mount.
