In this paper we introduce metric-based means for the space of positive-definite matrices. The mean associated with the Euclidean metric of the ambient space is the usual arithmetic mean. The mean associated with the Riemannian metric corresponds to the geometric mean. We discuss some invariance properties of the Riemannian mean and we use differential geometric tools to give a characterization of this mean.

First, we study the geometry of sequential warped products\n and obtain covariant derivatives, curvature tensor, Ricci curvature and\n scalar curvature formulas. Then some important consequences of these\n formulas are also stated. We provide characterizations of geodesics and two\n different types of conformal vector fields, namely, Killing vector fields and\n concircular vector fields on sequential warped product manifolds. Finally,\n we consider the geometry of two classes of sequential warped product\n space-time models which are sequential generalized Robertson-Walker\n space-times and sequential standard static space-times.
